Because you can feel pain in dreams, I'd suggest a different reality check. Try re-reading text, or plugging your nose to see if you can still breathe.

Good work on getting so close, it is rather bothersome when you don't follow through in the dream sometimes, but just keep working at it!

Funny how the classic "Pinch me I must be dreaming" actually doesn't work as a reality check...

That is so funny. I used to pinch myself as a RC when I was kid, and it worked until my dreams got more vivid, and I could feel pain in them. Then, I gave gave up RC's until I heard about looking at your hands. I did my first hands RC in front of a mirror. My hands did not appear in front of my face, but they did in the mirror.
