      A dream within a dream

Okay, it sounds like Inception but it happened. I went to sleep a few nights ago and did not become lucid sadly, but during the dream I went to my old house and went to sleep again! I became lucid the instant I entered the second dream, and lost it when I left the second dream, I don't remember much other than the fact that i jumped over a whole crowd of people in a single bound and smoked a blunt (I don't smoke anything in reality) I awoke to reality, confused as hell. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

      WE HAVE TO GO DEEPER...

Yes, some things like this have happened to me. I dreamt I was at school; fell asleep, and became lucid in my house. Then I woke back up into the first dream, and told people about my cool dream.

I think somewhere such stackings are reputed as a technique toward enlightenment.

      Uh dweem wifin uh dweem.

      lol, had to.

It could have been a dream about you laying in bed, skip to some other scene (your dream), and then had a false awakening. You expected yourself to wake up in the same setup as the first part of the dream.

Yes, perfectly possible, but not what it felt like, it was more so like I went to sleep while I was already asleep. It felt like I fell asleep not just looked like it.

Of course, If you are in a normal dream and decide to sleep, you will expect it to feel just like when you normally sleep. The key distinction is that you probably aren't actually going any "deeper", or onto a "different level" of the dream. You think that the previous dream is reality, so instead of waking up into the real reality, you wake up into what you think is reality. The mind is probably great at simulating how going to sleep feels. After all, you do it pretty much every day of your life.

My problem with the whole dream levels thing is that ultimately REM sleep is far closer to being awake (less "deep") than non-REM sleep anyways. Of course I haven't actually looked at measurements of brain activity or brain wave proportions during "first level" dreams and "second level" dreams, but I suspect that they are indistinguishable from a scientific perspective.

It was most likely just you going to another dream scene because for a dream to exist it needs your attention to create brain activity
example: Your holding the girl of your dreams in your arms after saving her you stare into her eyes then you wake up or go into another dreamWhy? The stimulation has gone

I have these ALLL the time. Alot of times, itll be 3 or more dreams in one. I'll "wake up" in my room and go about my day and then "wake up" again and think this is really real life and then "wake up" again....you get the picture. Sometimes it gets really frustrating. I love to dream, tho. Sometimes...well most of the time, I'd rather live in my dreams than in real life...something I'm working on because that can't be good I suppose.

Yeah what he said. It's like you are having a dream within a dream, but technically you are just dreaming about dreaming.

Ok I was just saying thats what happens to me a lot. I haven't seen Inception, and how can you be a newbie to dreaming? You shouldn't be so sure of yourself, anythings possible. You could be wrong, so could I.

Well, you can be a "newbie" to knowledge about dreaming. It's like the difference between being able to kick a goal in soccer, and understanding the physics behind it.

But maybe that was a bit strong. We're happy to help clear up the situation.
