As the beginning of wisdom is to "to know that you know nothing," so too the beginning of awakening (for lucidity) is to know that you are not awake. - Stephen LaBerge

I've experienced that too, and read about other people here who have as well. In my case I can say it was because I was not getting much sleep, so I think my mind was trying to produce REM as much as...

[Task of the Month for February 2018] Basic ii - Museum Visit - Success!

by NeoHenry on 02-13-2018 at 10:02 PM
I became lucid when there was a kid doing a ritual in the middle of the street. I told myself "Hey, I do a ritual in the middle of the street with a REALITY CHECK", and I did a reality check by flying around the street.

Funny enough, I did a task of the month yesterday . . .

Before I got into the challenge, I played around with lucidity by
    1) hanging out with a lot of ladies in a bar
    2) stopping time before something bad happen to me
    3) modifying the bad thing into a good thing
    4) doing reality checking to keep me lucid

When I remembered to do the challenge (the lucid dream lasted for a long time), I created a museum in front of me. It took several forms before it resided in its final shape, a big cube. I entered, and the first thing I heard was

YEAH, THIS MUSEUM WAS A PERSONA 4 MUSEUM.

"Alright," I told myself. "It's good to be back to my favorite place!"

The internal of the museum was black and yellow, with a few classical paintings and a lot of modern architecture. I met with the crew of Persona 4 to explore the museum, and it was great.

Pumping more Meditation time in Waking Life

by NeoHenry on 01-03-2018 at 10:29 PM
It has been recommended to (1) increase awareness, (2) critical assessment to waking life, and (3) memory capacity. One of the ways to increase awareness is through meditation, something I am familiar with since I have been working on lucidity. In collaboration with meditation, knowing dreamsigns that occur in dreams and in waking life also increase awareness.

What I shall dedicate myself to for more lucidity is the following:
    (1) 10 minutes of varying meditation (either breathing or the [LINK_TO_ANCHOR]Dream Yoga awareness meditation suggested by Sivason[/LINK_TO_ANCHOR])
    (2) Reality checking a recurring dreamsign

Number (1) is impressive as there are meditative methods, before Western science has its eyes on lucidity, to practice in waking life for preparation of lucidity. While this is obvious to many people, I find dream yoga to be a unifying theory of diverse meditative methods for lucidity. It is more critical for me to have a paradigm to work with rather than a splitter of ideas to work from.

Number (2) is important because I notice that in my dreams I don't have my pesonal monologue. In my waking life, I like to think to myself and play with ideas when being idle. In dreams, I don't have my essential psychological process from waking life, and I noticed this during my second lucid dream & my meditation. Therefore, I need to do a reality check when I notice I am not talking to myself.

This is a lot of stuff to work for lucidity, but I always find this stuff rewarding as even if I don't have a lucid dream at the end of the day I still have wonderful dreams to work from.

Dreaming - Meditation = Bad Recall

by NeoHenry on 01-02-2018 at 08:45 PM
After learning some dream yoga meditations, I wanted to give my brain some time to wrap its head around these meditations before I started doing them. I learned some meditation methods, such as mindful breathing, and I used them before January 2018 for me to have quality dream recall.

On January 1, 2018, I decided not to use any meditation before sleeping. The dreams were too blurry for my taste, thus concluding that meditations are necessary for lucidity.

Protip: [Talking about Dreams in a Dream] =/= [Lucidity Trigger]

by NeoHenry on 12-31-2017 at 08:36 AM
It was an assumption on my part that if I talk or think about lucidity and dreams in my dreams, I will instantly become lucid. However, this assumption is invalid (because the antecedent is true and the consequent is false in the material implication) as I have a dream of me talking about dreams with my older brother. To rub the salt in the wound, my older brother called Stephen LaBerge to get both of us into Stanford for his lucidity research.

Now I feel inclined to do a reality check every time I research or talk about lucidity.

    Dream Recall: Excelling Beyond Expectations

by NeoHenry on 12-29-2017 at 10:05 PM
Moral of the story: Practicing dream recall gives surprising results.

On December 20, I did an all-night study for a human sexuality final on December 21. This study composed of reading three textbook chapters, about 90 pages, on STI, contraception, and sexual violence. After reading so much, I decided to sleep for 1 hour and 30 minutes.

I also assumed that I wouldn't be able to recall my dreams since my sleep will be too short for any dreams. But, lo!, a dream came to me! Apparently, 1 hour and 30 minutes were enough to fit a REM sleep.

The setting took place in the rolling hills of New Zealand. I noticed that there were vampires running away from angels. An unseen narrator told me that vampires were running so that they could find a way to revert back to human so they could go to Heaven as a human instead of Hell as a vampire.

I woke up after that and laughed at the fact that dream recall did more than I expected.
