      Sorry it took so long.

A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy - A crash course of stoic thought. It offers a quick run down of the philosophy, it's history, and points you in the direction of other works related to stoicism.

The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius (Oxford edition) - This was my introduction to stoicism, and it's definitely my favorite book on the subject. It's the personal journal of Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius who happened to be a practicing stoic. I think you'd you'd really like this one.

The Stoics: A Guide for the Perplexed - This one offers a more detailed/scholarly take on stoic philosophy. It's a bit dry in the sense that it's very analytical, but it really hammers away at the fundamentals.

There's plenty of other books available on the subject but I think those three are a good start. I went with Meditations, A Guide to the Good Life, and then The Stoics, but it might be best to go in the order listed above.

Sure thing, I'll have to do it tomorrow though because I'm about to go to bed. Remind me in case I forget, I meant to message you a few days ago but it slipped my mind.

Hey snoop, I saw your thread in the Help! section and parts of it reminded me of my experiences with bipolar disorder. Stoic philosophy has helped me a great deal, probably even more than the medication and therapy, maybe it could do the same for you? You clearly have a very analytical mind, so you might enjoy learning about Stoicism. If you're interested, I could recommend a few books/resources?

I came across your postings on sociopathy, and have a similar background. Have some information you may find useful re:feeling normal.

snoop liked post by Darkmatters On thread : Carl Gustav Jung - Videos, Books, Ruminations
Lately I've been struck several times by how confusing the terminology can be surrounding states of consciousness as well as ideas about the self or the personality. I want to address 2 of these...

snoop liked post by Darkmatters On thread : Carl Gustav Jung - Videos, Books, Ruminations
In reference to a question I asked a few posts back, tonight I experienced how "the garbage" comes up when the verbal mind is shut down. It's in the form of images with ideas and emotion attached,...

A better way to word it -- as soon as you're able to understand sin, you are now capable of sinning and must take responsibility for your behavior. I think maybe as soon as people knew what sin...

I've re-read your post snoop, and I want to differ just slightly from what you said. I used to believe exactly the same - that the sin was actually the ignorance of morality. But I'm starting to...

snoop liked post by Darkmatters On thread : Carl Gustav Jung - Videos, Books, Ruminations
Oh, I'd also like to add, what you described (learning morality the hard way as children, and that being Original Sin that stains you forever) comes entirely from the Ego. "Mine Mine Mine, you can't...

No need to apologize snoop - in fact I ought to retract my own apology and self-imposed restriction on posting more Christian stuff. So far it’s proving to be a very fruitful vein, so why stop mining...

“Christian Mysticism connects ancient religions and Christianity directly to Jung’s Individuation." This line from the previous post requires elaboration. I realized after writing it that anyone...

snoop liked post by Darkmatters On thread : Carl Gustav Jung - Videos, Books, Ruminations
I briefly mentioned in a previous post (little ways up the page) that the Bible is structured to provide different levels of teaching for different people — that some need the literal interpretation...

snoop liked post by LeaningKarst On thread : For a Given Value of Real
OK, understood. And it did work up to a point, which is really all you can ask of an example. Yes, it struck me afterwards that that phrasing might have been a bit vague. Also that it might...

snoop liked post by LeaningKarst On thread : For a Given Value of Real
OK, it does look like we’re on much the same page—although I’d hesitate to use the boy who cried wolf as an example since it’s a story with a moral. It’s perfectly fine for what it is, but karma only...

snoop liked post by LeaningKarst On thread : For a Given Value of Real
As lucid dreamers, there are questions that pretty much all of us ask ourselves sooner or later: are the people, events, places and so on that appear in our dreams real in some sense? Are bad things...
