      Afterlife is all about belief.

You know, maybe we're all wrong about all of this.

Maybe you don't just die off and that's it, fine, but maybe you don't play tennis with Jesus in Heaven either. I think about this alot, I tell you. I'm the workin' man's thinkin' man. Honestly, most of the time I'm just concerned about staying alive (staying alive) Ooo, staying alive! So trivial matters of death are mostly far, far from my mind, because I don't want to become a depressive, cynical bastard... But that's what reading Vonnegut gets you, I suppose.

No, anyways, what if you can literally choose your afterlife? You want the easy way out, you just abstain from religion and just die, plain and simple. Maybe you're agnostic and so you get reincarnated so you'll quit having no balls and decide just what the hell you are, or maybe you're Christian, and so go to Heaven. Essentially, your afterlife is simply what you want it to be. Oh, maybe it's really just an empty void that your consciousness thinks is the afterlife you subscribed too, or maybe it's real and one giant ass Planet Afterlife is divided up into different religions.

So honestly... Islam sounds good for me, just convert at the end while I'm dieing. 70 virgins? Fine with me.

      My oppinion, atleast.

I wrote it in another thread aswell.
If afterlife turns out to be an endless black void of nothing, I doubt I will be dissapointed that it wasn't what I expected. So why expect what you don't like?

I 'believe' that aswell, that you choose your own afterlife.
I want to rule my own universe(s)

      It isn't a void.

      it isn't black.

      it isn't nothing.

It is nonexistence. It is the nothing of nothings.

      Well, I still don't think I'll be dissapointed ._.

Since it is... Still... Nothing. The Nothing. Master Nothing.

Hmm. Actually, it is also nonsense!
Since it is, nothing at all, hence it lacks sense, so it's nonsense.

You seem to have a poor conception of death.

You won't be disappointed. You won't have any feelings about the matter whatsoever. You won't be anything because you won't exist any more.

I didn't say I will be happy, but I will not be dissapointed.

How can nothing be nothing when nothing has to be something? Even while sleeping (and not dreaming) there is still a consciousness there, even if you don't know it, directing all your bodily functions. Sure, there's no body when you're dead- but there is no place in the known Universe (besides before the Universe, but that is irreverent) that has absolutely nothing in it, even interstellar space has gravity and such primal forces. "Nothingness" is relevant and cannot exist for infinitely either. Why would an afterlife, an empty void, let's say, not follow the rules of the universe?

But what the hell do I know? We could all be wrong. Maybe now's the time to convert to some obscure god incase he holds the key to eternal life.

That's why I said 'it is nonexistence. It is the nothing of nothings.' You can't comprehend it, because you exist.

What reason do we have to believe it exists if we can't comprehend it? Existence is universal. Nobody and nothing can understand it because there is something in every single bit of matter. You're making a leap of faith here with absolutely no proof. I can see not being able to comprehend, but with proof- like quantum physics in many cases... But this is crazy.

AND WE ARE TWO WILD AND CRAZY GUYS!

We'll have no eyes, so we cannot see.
We'll have no ears, so we cannot hear
We'll have no brain, so we cannot sense existance.

It's not like our consciousness is going to be dropped in a big pool of nothing, we just won't have the tools needed to 'sense' or 'feel' existance.

Sure, I can understand that. But my point is- nothingness cannot exist. Even without nose, eyes, ears, and a brain, life is still there.

The thing that will be nothing is your neural network. Your mind will be nothing, that is the point. Your mind won't be slightly anything; your mind will be completely and utterly gone.

It doesn't make any sense to say something like "When you are dead there will be nothing" because that statement references time, and in order to have time(at least in any relevant and not strictly theoretical sense) you have to have consciousness there to observe its passage either during or after the fact.

yeah, I don't want 70 virgins talking in my room for eternity, I think I'll stay away from that before I turn into a girl myself. Doesn't say anything about guys. we need our guy time too.

@Dylanshmai: Doesn;t specify female virgins. Your afterlife may be worse than you expect, especially if you hate tabletop RPGs and advanced math and science.

@Good as Gold: THis is one of the assumptions of my personal belief syustem, that if humans have a soul, or a consciousness not inherent in the physical brain, then whatever happens when you die is whatever... (see footnote 1) you assume will happen when you die. If you expect to reincarnate, you probably will (or at least 'dream' about having been reincarnated). If you expect an eternal stay a club where Jesus cheats at water polo, moses teaches tennis, and the big man himself offers puppet shows in the sky, you'll probably get that. If you expect to go to some sort of hell, either because of guilt or because you fully believe you will become a high-level demon (with no grain of doubt that you won;t be damned instead), you probably will. If an afterlife exists, I say your individual consciousness shapes it.

footnote 1: Aw, crud. I've spent so much time thinking what the afterlife is, I forgot to think about what it would be like when I got there. Probably a bunch of angry gods with golf clubs. Because they hate smarta** mortals, not because they like golf.

My afterlife will have at least 144 virgins. Because 12 is such a sweet number and a good good is just that much better than a good (virgin count).

And all of them will be chaste! I mean, in my experience, that's been my luck. I don't see why dying should change that; I need some consistency here...

Why would you want virgins? The breaking in and teaching process would be shit to go over and over again. Why not 70 whores? At least then they know what theyre doing, and you don't have to work as hard.

Would herpes viruses go to heaven when they die? WOuld they even have an afterlife? It's disputed whether viruses actualy even live, and they almost certainly do not think, so would they be able to believe in an afterlife, or would they just appear in whatever afterlives are already available? (in which case, the afterlife is going to suck for anyone susceptible to the common cold)
