Thread: Multiverse?

Ok, so one of my favorite pastimes is thinking about the multi verse and designing my own. I mean, if there is a infinite number of universes, (I will explain that later,) there has to be that one, right?
Then I thought, what if I design one that is dream accessible, or...Well, let me explain...I'm not good at math, but...

a+1=b+1

A (Universe 1) is your dream. In B (Universe 2) your dreams effect that universe. So...

E (Event) happens in both, but notice that when your dream is gone, the universe isn't. It has its own history and future. But its present is your dream.

Not familiar with the multiverse theory? Well there are a infinite number of planes. Each has a number of universes and blah blah blah...

A construction that makes it appear that one can predicate existence is, by the principles of logic--any logic--a false construction. Predication is the inverse function of abstraction. Plato exampled the nonsense in errant prediction in, Parmenides, I believe.

Predication is simply the inverse function of abstraction. An implication is that not all assertion and denial is predication.

Wonderful explanation.

I'm assuming you are talking about the multiverse in which every decisive action we don't take in this universe occurs in some parallel universe. This idea is just plane silly. It's elementary philosophy that can't hold up to any logical scrutiny.
And I don't understand what you are trying to say in this post at all. The dream world doesn't exist unless we observe it. Why did you decide that it has it's own past and future regardless of the dreamer? And how does this relate to a multiverse?
This thread should have been posted in the Philosophy subforum this doesn't have ANYTHING to do with research.

The theory of the multiverse is more physics/mathematics oriented than philosophical. There are many different ways to explain it (depends on which physics theory you're looking at it from) but basically it says that for every possible outcome of an event (Outcome A, Outcome B, ... ) if one occurs in this universe (let's say Outcome A), then the others (Outcome B, ... ) do occur just in universes parallel to ours. Which would make the idea of a multiverse like a giant, constantly expanding explosion of sorts. They say a picture's worth a thousand words:



A very basic explanation, but basically every situation that arises and allows for a 'choice' of outcomes, at that point in space-time, a separate universe splits from the current one, each with the different result of that original situation.

But you create a new possibility every time you dream don't you? There's no point in this whole multiverse theory when it has no application in real life and the only way i can see it be applied to our reality is if you link it to dreams.

Yea, ur right sorry. I'm just astonished how much this is misunderstood. From our own perceptions we create a universe everytime we dream our little dreams or possibly visit one . I'm sure you can build a storyline but im not sure if you can actually build a lasting world in ur dreams.

You might be able to extrapolate it to that but you have to remember in a physical world dreams are just firings of neurons in your head. And the theory would apply to real life as in you're driving and the road dead-ends, you can go left or right. You go right; somewhere in one of these alternate universes, you go left.

Or you open the fridge to get a drink and there's water and milk and juice. You pick water but, again in some other universes you choose milk and juice. etc. etc.

I suppose you could say that different neuronal firing paths during dreaming (and waking life) could take millions of different paths and thus create millions of alternate universes depending on each path. But a dream "universe" is just a hallucination created by the firing of electricity between neurons in your Physical mind.

When it comes to physics stuff you have to remember to separate the physical (your body, brain) from the metaphysical (your mind). I was just trying to clarify the concept of a 'multiverse,' as I'm a physics major and always enjoy jumping into physics discussions

Well then wold'nt there be a set of outcome like the dream where it..Never mind. Off to my next thread.

Yes.. u people like to seperate the two. but really they are not seperate at all. I like non-duality quite a lot.

Related pondering:

Aren't there someone of the people on this forum that manifest dream realities that they recurringly go back to and sometimes share dreams with others in these 'places'. And, imagined in a grand scale, if you decide to put some rules and laws into that games nature (shouldn't be difficult in principle), wouldn't that be quite similar to the appearantly physical world we live in?
