The IRL game

This game has 5 simple steps:

1. Click that little x at the top right of the screen
2. Turn off your computer
3. Get up and walk away
4. Go outside
5. Come back and report your findings

Prizes go to anybody who reaches number 4 but the real winners never make it to number 5.

Firstly, upon clicking the X, my browser disappeared. "That's strange. I can't see the internet. That's never happened before..." I said. "I wonder what 'turn off your computer' does?" Upon discovering the appropriate Start Menu command (ironic?) I was cast into darkness, as the glow of the monitor is the only light down here and I've been staring at it for seven hours straight. I walked into walls for twenty minutes until my eyes adjusted. Upon more searching I found a strange upwards ascending array of small floors with a blinding light at the top. I began to climb them but stopped seven steps up as my legs have atrophied from sitting at my chair for so long. I lay there recovering my strength when I heard strange voice-like sounds from the new world above which were voices. Frightened by the threat of potential face-to-face human contact, I attempted to stand to escape. Failed by my leg's severely diminished muscle mass, I used my fingers' incredible strength (from the typing, you see) to crawl, very painfully, down the steps.

A few days later I made it back to my room. It was a horrible experience that I'm never going to try again.

As you can see, this is a very challenging contest. I predict that very few people will make it and some may very well die in the attempt.

But it is rumored that there is much treasure to be found in the outside world! Rumors have even sprung up about the existence of a creature named a "girl" although they are only rumors and cannot be taken seriously. From my experiences on the interwebz, all "girls" are actually guys in disguise!

The stars were out tonight, it was beautiful. I watched the stars for a while, spotted the Dippers both Big and Little, Orion, and Cassiopeia. The cool night air felt good as I sat in my hot tub, relaxing from a long day of not touching a computer. After some time (I lost track, not having my system tray applet to glance at on occasion) I got out, came back inside, showered, dressed and then drove to a nearby restaurant for a quick bite to eat. I saw a few animals by the roadside on the way.

At the restaurant I had two pecan waffles and a cherry vanilla Coke, played a dozen assorted songs on the jukebox, then left as the last song finished, waving goodnight to the lone waitress. The stars were still out, the night cloudless. During the drive home I thought back on my day; how I slept in till mid-afternoon, went out not long after I woke up to shoot my rifle a bit, let my dog out to play, and gave the squirrels a hard time. Then I thought to myself, you know, I haven't been near a computer all day today. I should probably check on those silly internet people and make sure they're still making amusing threads in Senseless Banter, and maybe make a few posts here and there just so they don't start to think I have a life or something...

And then when I got home and got online, I saw this. What a remarkable coincidence.

If waking life has been reduced to an acronym, then humanity is lost.

Anyways, I have taken the challenge, and passed it every single day. I log off in the morning, and walk the 2 miles to school (it's pretty cold btw, I'm in Wisconsin), visit with my friends a bit before class, then go to 4 fortresses of boredom. (the 3rd one is the worst: Study Hall *gasp*)

Next up is a break from the psychological torture: Lunch, then Stomach-cramp Fest. (Gym) Lunch is good, because I can be with my friends, talking about some random shit that happens, etc. Gym would be fun, but I get stomach cramps a TON. Then after that, 2 more fortresses of boredom, then freedom. I visit with my friends again while waiting for the bus, then take the bus home, where I briefly visit with my family members and go back on computer.

I go through this hellish obstacle course 5 days a week regularly.

o_O; Is this possible? I've often surmised that the internet could close, but to see someone experience it...

No, it's not lies. I had experienced this unusual way of life last week. It was weird at first but I got used to it.

Arby, how do you expect anyone with OCD to get past step one?

Two birds with one stone!

I sensed the undercurrent of 'get a life internerds' in the OP, and so I showed that I do get out plenty and appreciate nature.

Speaking of going outside, I went out and sat on a rock for an hour and a half today, to study biology. This tiny little black-capped chickadee kept flitting over and watching me from a branch just a few feet away, it was awesome. Damned birds distract me from my homework, though

The real world? Are you nuts? I'm highly allergic to "fresh air," mind you. My lungs would collapse upon the first inhalation! 71% Nitrogen! How can people breathe that stuff? I'll sit here and wallow in my wonderful, stagnant pit of CO2, thanks.

I think going outside sometimes has stuff to do with interacting with people as well, not just trees and such. Although, trees can be quite fun as we all know.
