Keeping a regular sleeping schedule: how do you?

We know that regular sleeping schedule is important: not only you can fall asleep faster due the routine habit, but you're internal clock also helps in the way that you can wake up without so much hassle. This may be a noticeable difference on your performance during the day, and also has advantages when you're doing dream recall or even lucid dreaming.

But in those situations where you simply aren't able to go to bed at your regular time, what do you do?

      - Sleep less by waking up at the same hour, and taking advantage of the REM rebound for the next night?

      - Opt to extend your sleeping schedule in that particular day, waking up later than usual?

I can't sleep late anymore. I can't even do it on late nights or weekends when I know I should. If I'm tired, I will grab a nap later in the day.

      I chose the first option.

I got into this crappy sleeping schedule last month... I had four days off school, so I went to bed at about 4-5 in the morning each night. I'd then end up sleeping in until later in the afternoon.

Well, when school rolled around again, I'd gotten so used to going to bed late that the earliest time I could go was at 3 in the morning. I still had to get up for school at around 7, though. My sleeping schedule is slowly returning to normal, albeit painfully slowly.

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Depends, but for the majority I put the first option.
During the weekdays, if I decide to go to bed later, then I would have to wake up at the same time, which happens frequently throughout the week, I find I get bad recall when this happens.
During weekends, I will sleep as much as I normally do and wake up later, then I have good recall and can remember some dreams well

For lucid dreaming I always recommend going to bed at the same time every night, and sleeping for at least 8 hours if possible, because that way your recall will be improved vastly.

Sleep less but wake up at same time as usual unless it's the weekend. During the week I wake up between 5 AM - 5:15 no matter how late I stay up the night before. On weekends I just wake up whenever I want too :lol and usually stay up until 3 AM.
