      ADD and Depression

I used to have chronic depression (still have some symptoms) and I've got ADD. I've noticed that when I don't take the ADD meds, I get very depressed. When I do, everything's fine.

Has anyone else noticed anything like this?

I've been though this same situation, and I've come to the conclusion that one has at least partly to do with the other. I was diagnosed with ADD at a very young age and had to take meds for a while. They're basically straight stimulants, they make you happy artificially. When you stop taking them you crash from becoming depended on those stimulants and you become extremely depressed or bored, at least that's definitely what happened to me. Maybe they're two separate things, but if your naturally depressed, ADD meds will certainly help hide that from yourself with the artificial mood change and to stop taking them would only amplify it if it was there already.

I have it, I have to take medicine to keep me concentrated. I am used to it since I have taken medicine for it since I was very little.
for me it is kind of like that but more I am tired and without energy mostly.

I probably developed depression because of the ADD.
We didn't know I had it until I was 15. Before then I couldn't figure out why I wasn't able to concentrate, we just thought it was normal. 0.o

That's what stimulants do. Or rather, that's what happens when you stop taking them.

I'm doing fine on what I have now, I guess it was just some kind of withdrawal like what Wayfaerer said.

When I was taking adderal, I'd get very depressed while off of it. I'm not sure, but it seemed at the time to be because I felt almost nothing while on it, so when I went off of it and was able to feel emotion again, I was bombarded with it. I don't know if that's right, it just felt like what was happening. Like my brain needed a certain amount of emotion in a day, and because I wasn't allowing myself to feel it while on the pills, I'd feel it more strongly later.

im on concerta witch is long acting ritalin and i got depresion and yea i find that once i start using them i have to keep using them couse if i miss a few days and then go back on it REALY fucks with my head like depresion, extremly voilent tendencies, and sooooooooooo fuckingggggg horrrrrnnnnyyyy. once you start taking them take them every day at a certain time couse your brain and body needs to adjust to them and when you just stop using suddenly it mixes up your brain chemistry.
