When I was young, and afraid of getting attacked or stuff like that, I imagined my blanket as a defending and protective blanket, that could stop anything, and save me from anything. My blanket was my protector, and that made me glad. I would be all "Ohh no, the room is all dark!!" and I would get under my blanket as fast as I could, and pouf, all my fear was gone.

      I still get that occasionaly

Back when i was younger, when i believed in all those monsters. I got over my fear by imagining that i was the king of monsters, and that they tended to my every whim.

Im sure tweak didnt mean to be offensive. It's a natrual question to ask how old are you if you are afraid of the dark because generally younger children have that fear. Although my fear of the dark has long sicne evaporated when I was younger I used to pretend that I had some weapon that helped protect me. This made me feel much better and the anxiety went away.

I can't see why you would be afraid of the dark. Why is it because you cannot see? Or are you afraid something is going to get you? If it is that big of a problem I would suggest getting a night light.

Not calling you a baby or anything, like get something to increase the light quality in your room at night, not so much that you can't sleep, but enough so that you aren't frightened anymore.

      Hypnosis

It is a trance state characterized by extreme suggestibility, relaxation and heightened imagination. It's not a sleep, actually quite the opposite. The subject is alert the whole time and fully conscious but they block out most of the disturbance around them. It is more like daydreaming, or the feeling of "losing yourself" in a good book or movie.

I'm really afraid of the dark, too. This has worsened since an episode I had over a week ago, which I wrote about here.

I've always been afraid of the dark, but since I had that weird experience, I've just been a LOT more freaked out, and have had a lot of anxiety while trying to fall asleep. I am going to sleep with my TV or computer screen on tonight to give me some sort of light, or maybe the hall light on...

For some weird reason, I'm also really scared of waking up in the middle of the night and doing an RC, and finding out that I'm actually dreaming. This scares me a lot and I don't know why. I hate it because I barely slept at all last night, because I kept waking up over and over and being scared that I was dreaming (though I wasn't).

I got over my fear of the dark when I was about sixteen (I know a long time to have a fear like that, but so what). Anyway, whenever I start panicking and its dark I either shut my eyes - when I was younger I got this idea from the movie "Darkness Falls" - if you keep your eyes shut then evil spirits wont harm you etc; or I imagine I'm surrounded by Angels with their wings extended protecting me.

I hope I helped in some way.

When I was a kid I used to lock myself in the bathroom, turn off the lights, and just stand there imagining I was surrounded by everything that scared me. It didn't take long after I started that to lose my fear of the dark.

That's really the only way to deal with fear in my opinion- you have to face it.

      Hello,
I am 26 and still afraid of the dark. This is mostly due to when I was little I WILDed (wake induced lucid dream) a lot (but did not know until age 18 this is what it was) and I had some pretty bad nightmares and dream images staying well after waking. But now I do not get these WILD nightmares as bad and I know what they are now so it is less scary

When I was about 12 I got sick of always having to sleep with a light on (and my brother making fun of me) so I trained my self to not be afraid of the dark. I did this by placing a black light bulb in my normal light and used that at night with a lamp by my bed if needed. Because this was a darker light then normal light this helped me and I was soon able to sleep with no light on in pitch blackness. Then I had another WILD exprience around the age of 14 and was again afraid of the dark. Now I have to have some type of low light on at night or like you have someone sleeping in the room with me. This is mostly I have not tried to do this again as I was always sleeping somewhere that was not pitch black after that age.

I would not let this fear get the best of you unless it starts getting worse. (I can't close the bathroom door with out the light one first or I start panicking )

I would suggest to try something like I did as a child and train your self to be able to stay and sleep in the dark. This might take a while but I know if it worked for me it can work for you But most of all I would like to say something like this takes time. Try not to rush your self and set backs can happen just keep at it

      D.G.
