Can you go straight into a WILD from a waking state?

ok so i know the basic theory around a WILD, you attempt to wake up before your next REM cycle and try to transition your waking mind into the dreamstate, but what I'm wondering is if when you go to bed if you can make that same transition into your first REM cycle, rather than having to wake up and try and interject into a later REM cycle. Hope i made sense and you can help me, thanks!!!

Yes, absolutely. This is the way many people seek to do it. It's just easier for those starting out to begin in between sleep cycles, as opposed to at the beginning of the first.

It's best to sleep for a few hours and then try WILDing.

If you do it right as you get into bed, there's a good chance you aren't in a REM cycle. This means that a dream might not form, and you'll just drift asleep. And if you aren't relaxed enough, sleep paralysis can take an hour to get into, which for many people isn't worth the effort.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.
