      Failing at WILDING

I'm determined to get the WILDing thing down since I suck at DEILDs and because they are so rare for me to get one. The only thing that is stopping me is I can't advance into the lucid dream.

I can lay down still for about 10-20 minutes and feel the vibrations, see visuals, and sometimes hear noises. The problem is I usually do them BEFORE I go to bed which I heard most likely wont give me a lucid dream fast.

So the past two days, I've woken up at different times at night to WILD. Both were unsuccessful. I didn't move for maybe 10 minutes and I didn't feel any different. Yesterday I woke up at 3:30AM, got my bearings, and tried to WILD. Nothing. So after 10 minutes I gave up and fell back asleep. Today I did it again at 3:30AM but same thing happened. But than I set my alarm to 5:00AM and did it again for 30 minutes in increments of 10 to check the time. No sleep paralysis, vibrations, or visuals. I was wondering why this was.

Could it be because before I go to bed, I try to WILD just because I like the feeling (It feels like I'm high)? I heard if you mess up a WILD attempt, you just messed up your REM cycle or something along those lines. Could it be I'm waking up at 3:30AM which is too early?

      Can anyone help?

I want to try it today and I read afternoon naps at 2PM are the best time to try it.

Also, how long did it take some of you guys to get it right and enter a lucid dream?

Do you have to do it on a WBTB or is doing it at 2PM or any other time fine?

Some people will say that attempting WILD when you first go to bed is relatively harmless, but in my experience it leads to a fitful night of sleep. You shouldn't be doing it for that reason alone. And yes, it's probably messing you up.

You can't just do it at any time of the day. There are exactly 2 times when it's reasonable to try it: afternoon nap (if you're tired enough to actually fall asleep), and immediately following a good 5-7 hours of sleep. So we're talking about 5/6 am depending on your schedule. You don't need to do any kind of WBTB, but for some people it helps. However, based on your OP, it sounds like WBTB wouldn't help you. WBTB is more for people who wake up and they're too tired to think.

When I first started researching LDing it took me about a month, maybe 6 weeks, to get a lucid.

The farthest I've been in a WILD is were I'm laying in my bed facing up. I feel like I have two bodies. One physical laying still in bed and another one that is rolling different ways. Ever time I focus on it, I come back fully to the physical one. The only thing is it took 30 minutes of being still to get to that point and I kept giggling because it felt so odd. I guess I just have to keep working at it. I'll post later when I successfully do it and what it felt like.

That's what people in the drug community call the "dissociation spiral", but nevermind that. What you're describing is not SP. You need to totally un-focus your mind if you want to WILD. Don't think of it as forcing your body to sleep; rather, think of it as falling asleep with the intention of remaining conscious.

You're 100% right. I tried to WILD again when I woke up this morning but I was way too awake and my mind was to active to WILD. Every time I was close to transitioning to a dream, my mind kind of put me back into my real body. I guess I gotta try it from a WBTB or even in the afternoon since I usually get really tired around that time.
