      Newbie WILD Questions Please Answer

Hey I've only tried lucid dreaming twice and wasn't able to get there probably due to my lack of knowledge. I have some questions which I wasn't sure why they happened when i was trying WILD. My eyes kept flickering like i was blinking fast although my eyes were closed, am i meant to close my eyes throughout the whole process or do I keep them open. I feel Vibrations all throughout my body but i've never hullicinated or heard sounds that are not there am i close to Sleep Paralysis should I carry on the way I'm going. Thanks all

      Hi, welcome to Dreamviews!

REM (rapid eye movement) is a fairly common occurrence in WILD attempts; I haven't experienced it myself, but many others have. Your eyes are supposed to be closed because any visual stimuli, such as opening your eyes and looking around the room, can snap you out of SP or whatever hypnagogic imagery you may be seeing. It will signal to your mind that you're still awake, and stop the process of falling asleep. REM sometimes happens though, and there's not much you can do about it. But you can take steps to ensure you won't wake out of the SP if you do open your eyes - you can wear a sleeping mask, and make sure all the sources of light in your room are gone. The room should be as dark as possible, preferably pitch-black. Not everyone experiences hallucinations (auditory, tactile, or visual) when they're close to or in sleep paralysis, so don't rely on that to confirm whether you're in that state or not. You're definitely close, though. Just keep relaxing deeper.

Oh, I moved this thread to the Wake Initiated Lucid Dreams - WILD subforum. =)
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

      Yeah, no problem!

For techniques, I'd definitely recommend MILD, which can also be used in combination with any other technique. DILD is probably the next easiest, followed by WILD, which is more advanced. But there's no reason why you couldn't start with WILD first, if you're dedicated enough.

You can use MILD before you go to bed, and as you're falling asleep (saying mantras, imagining yourself becoming lucid, etc). WILDing is recommended during a nap in the middle of the day, or during a WBTB after sleeping for a few hours. During the WBTB, you can use MILD along with some reality checks and looking around to see if anything looks strange. You can also do some logic/math problems, like 17+5.
