Firstly: Disregard what you have heard previously, as you seem to be going about this the wrong way. Whether you reach sleep paralysis and/or vibrations or not is irrelevant (or any other physical/external feature for that matter). I, for one, WILD without SP.

When WILDing, you're not trying to stay awake or look for signs such as SP and HH. The fundamental element is to go to sleep and stay aware - not try to stay awake. Why's that you ask? Well, the whole point of lucid dreaming is to focus on internal reality. What that basically means is to focus on what's inside of you and completely blank out the outside world. By focusing on sleep paralysis and the WILD itself you're doing the complete opposite to focusing in, and you're not going to be very successful that way.

Just let go. Let your mind wander and now and then bring it back so that you're that tiny bit aware of what's going on. Things which will help immensely are using your internal senses to generate scenes, feelings, noises, tastes, etc. If you can vividly imagine yourself holding an apple (for example) and really feel and see it there you're already half way, and this way you're concentrating on things which will help you get to where you want to be.

I'd like to second this question. I'm going about it the "right" way, according to Graves (though I don't really think there's anything wrong with confirming your 'distance' from succeeding in the WILD from external factors like SP or HI) but I have had my eyes open, seemingly on their own, twice. Both times that it happened, I was sinking into sleep but keeping my awareness quite heightened. Both times felt like an involuntary muscle contraction, like when I twitch or swallow automatically as I fall asleep. I start to see light behind my eyelids, and then suddenly my eyes are open.

So yes, I'd also be interested to hear if anyone has anything to say about this.

Let me see if I can get you to comprehend this..

You know that feeling where you wake up randomly in the morning and you feel really tired? Then maybe try going back to sleep, to which you drift off and see scenes etc, then suddenly come to and realise you drifted off? It's kind of like that. What you basically do is (now and then) bring your awareness back of what's going on. Just let yourself drift off and allow these pictures/scenes to come into your mind, then try and alert yourself to what's going on. I don't mean with your physical body and such, I mean in terms of your state of consciousness and what you're experiencing inside of your head. Eventually you'll either pass out or get lucid, but both are better than staying up for ages getting nowhere, in my opinion at least.

I know what you mean with the eyes opening, I get this sometimes when meditating. Ive wondered if using a blindfold/sleep mask would help, might try it tonight once ive finished work.

I'd suggest that. If I had the money to invest in one I most likely would as I struggle with that too.
