      Spontaneous SP

      Hi everyone,

some of you may already know this, but I want to put this out in the public because it's a real issue for me.

As long as I can remember, I've gone to sleep and suddenly I wouldn't feel my body anymore (this I ignored altogether, not thinking much of it), but then the Hypnogogic Hallucinations would kick in and freak the dream-state right out of me.

Now I know what this is; the gateway to a Lucid Dream. ..so if I wanted, I could have a WILD every single night! ..if the idea of HH wouldn't still freak me out.

Apparently I'm naturally so relaxed I automatically go into SP. I literally have to stop myself from spontaneously going into SP while I'm aware. This costs me at least an hour every night.

      ..any advice?

Wow, you're so lucky. Well all I can say about you freaking out about the HH is I guess just don't be afraid. It happens every night. (And I know you've probably heard this a ton of times before) I'm sorry I couldn't be of much help!

It's ok, I'm talking myself into doing it, using people's comments on this topic as self-assurance. So thanks ^^

I gathered all my courage and tried it last night, but failed, probably due to anxiety or excitedness..

Hi there, I'm sure that eventually you'll get over your fear of HH's, it takes time. Something that I do and that has helped me in the long run is that no matter what i hear or feel I DO NOT open my eyes. Just keep them shut until your SP ends do not even think about opening them.

If it's audible hallucinations what you can try to do is pay more attention to the one that is least scary for you, if there is more than one. For example, during on of my Sp episodes I started hearing 2 noises at the same time. One was the sound of terrible laughter, like that of a gremlin or something, the other one was that of a radio commentary of like a baseball game or something. All i did was pay more attention to the man with the radio voice and within seconds Sp ended and I was lucid.

You can also try concentrating on other noises that you hear such as cars passing, or anything else, but just ignore the scary sounds and Keep Your Eyes Shut, until you hear/feel nothing at all. Just remember it's all in your head, and even try to Imagine some other type of imagery or sounds. If you believe in yourself, the HH can actually turn into whatever you want to imagine!

Damn, I really wish I had your ability. You willl get used to HH, and you absolutely can not go into this with any bit of fear. Fear will lead to doubt which will lead to you wanting to exit the SP stage. I used to be afraid of experiencing SP my first time before I even got it, but once I did, the process became easier each time. Also, by the time I am in SP and having HH, it only takes no more than 45 seconds before I am pushed into a dream fully lucid. Sometimes i feel stuck under SP even tho im dreaming already, in which case I usually break out of it or wait it out until I can get up. My advice would be to educate yourself, read more accounts of other ppls transition into LD via WILD, and be confident in the fact that therre really is nothing scary about HH, its you that will make the HH scary by expecting the worst, so STOP EXPECTIN THE WORST!! hope that helps

Aww thanks for your encouraging replies!!

I've been trying over the last week, and manage to get in slightly further each time, but I had a full WILD once and I panicked when I couldn't move my body or shout for help, but all I got was some colours and geometric shapes, and I relaxed, knowing what was going to happen. I sleep with classical music to mute the audio hallucinations, and that's working great! I did have a lucid that time, and interestingly enough the music did not transfer into the dream.

I don't know why I'm still so freaked out after that positive experience. I'm just paranoid by nature, I think..

Thanks again, I'll just try to focus on the music fading away while my body gets heavy and the visuals kick in.
