      Issues diving into a dream

After about 10 days of incessant partying and not dreaming, I decided early yesterday that I would stay home and sleep in my own bed. I had sub-par dream recall compared to normal, but managed to record 3 dreams. I did a WBTB naturally, I got up and went to the restroom.

When I laid back down, I visualized, or attempted anyways, numbers being manipulated down to 50 from 100. After some time, my body jerked and my limbs went to sleep. I saw hynagogic imagery and got the whirls.

I read somewhere that after the tingly sleepiness in your limbs ceases, that we should roll out of our bed and open our eyes. If we do this, we will be in our dream body rather than our actual body. I've never heard this before and decided to give it a whirl. I spent a few minutes visualizing my room and attempted to dive in. When I did, I felt a big jerk across my entire body, and opened my eyes.

After that, I did a few reality checks, I tried the tongue on the roof of my mouth, the finger through my hand, and breathing through my nose with it being held, but to no avail. My arms felt like I had been sleeping on them for hours despite me laying on my back and them across my chest.

I come to question: what gives?

Well... you weren't in the dream yet. I usually transition automatically, if not... i use visualisation. I'd recommend you to do a mental roll out of bed, or even better, visualise yourself standing up. Don't do any physical moving until you are sure the dream has formed, so you'll be less likely to ruin your attempt. I like the idea of the tongue reality check though.

      Greetings, Tucane

When you get into hypnagogic imagery keep focusing on them! It's the beginning of the dreaming process and you might be 5-10 minutes near a non-rem dream that can keep you entertained and then you wake up again and you're very near REM and can then wait for the dream to form. Don't focus on your physical body!

If I focus on the dream scene, I fall asleep and don't wake up. I've tried this before.

Ah ok =/ Try WILDing in a position you can't fall asleep as easily in then, but still enter the hypnagogic state. I have started to fall asleep in a sitting position now and I used it before to WILD, but now my body have got used to is so now I need to find a new one, perhaps doing a handstand? lol...

Anyway state your intent as you WILD to be aware of your dreams, because if you fall asleep you might have a chance to get aware of the dream. I mean how are you supposed to start dreaming without falling asleep? So it can't hurt to aim for a MILD as well.

      Good luck!

Ps. Scary cat... It gave me nightmares... Nahh kidding cat's can't give me nightmares.

I'll have to try this then. I can usually sleep in any position and be comfortable, but I see what you mean. The handstand sounds pretty legit, post results . Cats can't every give you nightmares.. unless .

I have had times where I have a dream form in my head and I am like halfway in it but not entirely. I just try to focus on the dream until it envelops my body entirely. It doesn't always work but it helps.
