Noises are part of falling asleep. You notice them, when your body is shutting down but your mind is paying attention. They are not SP.

As falling asleep consciously, you can either hear, see or feel all kinds of hypnagogic hallucinations (HH). The can't do you harm, they just may startle you, if you don't know you could have them. Not everybody has the same HH, or same every time.

Audio HH is probably the most common. Like Gab says, it has nothing to do with SP. Most people do not end up in SP, but later in sleep if you are aware, you can feel the chemical changes that make your body lay still (often thought of as SP, incorrectly) and it feels a bit like narcotics.
The first HH stuff is still a bit before that chemical stuff though. It should be viewed as fun, and a good sign you are staying aware in the first stage of sleep.

I had a WILD last morning and right before I dissociated from my body I heard a loud crash, it was a pretty intriguing foreshadowing for my entrance out of my body.
