First time trying WILD... what did I do wrong?

Hello! First time posting in a forum like this... I have been trying to get into Lucid Dreaming lately for many reasons - most of which I'm sure I share with almost everyone here!

I attempted to try WILD this morning despite my hesitation due to my many sites and resources warning of SP (which I do not want to consciously experience when not in a sound state of mind), because I had REALLY wanted to be lucid last night without much success. I'm sure part of my failure is attempting this after naturally waking up after a full night's sleep, and not having set an alarm.

I never sleep on my back, as I just hate being on my back in general, and have always slept curled up on my side. I had gone to the bathroom after waking up naturally, and then I remember trying to go back to sleep after 20 minutes with the intention of trying to become lucid. I remember my hands and feet going numb. I ignored it, because I knew nothing was on top of them and nothing was restricting my circulation, and I also remembered that I had to stay really still in order to maximize my chances of this working. Eventually after what felt like a half an hour, I actually FELT my entire body go numb while I was completely, 100% conscious. Like all of my weight no longer mattered, like I was floating. I also felt my eyes moving very very fast, while still being aware that my eyes were closed. I kept telling myself that yes, this was my body going to sleep, this was awesome. I saw rough darker outlines of blobs in the "darkness" of my closed eyes, and kept trying to envision myself "waking up" in a dream world so try and push myself there, but.... it never happened. It felt like I was trying to envision my dream world for about 5 minutes, but when my body decided to give up, it was an hour later. Bummer.

I didn't open my eyes in fear that this would either put me in a) SP, or b) wake me up from my attempt.

      Yo and welcome to dreamviews!
WILD has nothing to do with SP, so don't worry about it, and you don't really need to stay still or sleep in certain position, you just need to fall asleep while being aware.
It sounds like you have reached hypnagogic state but haven't gotten any further, maybe you were trying too hard with visualizing and just got too awake? Also, "kept telling that body going to sleep", it's better to not think about your physical body during WILD, that also might be the cause that got you too awake.
And also, check out this tutorial: WILD , which describes WILD process in-depth.
      Good luck!

Not being able to sleep on your back is a gift for WILD. Seriously, it is. I got the same 'trait'.

The next time you try WILD, use this ability. Lay on your back and then simply try to become sleepy. I'm sure you can do this easily. At some point you might pass out/start to daydream but your little thing of not being able to fall asleep completely will help you a lot.
At some point you will regain consciousness and most likely you will have skipped all the annoying time other people need to keep their awareness up to not fall asleep. You will be in the HI stage already and you just need to embrace all the sensations you get. And then choose any transision method you want (I usually just imagine me looking at my dream hands until I actually am in the dream).
