      On The Verge

So in my last few WILD attempts, I've noticed a few things and wanted some advice from you guys who have done it.

When getting close to falling asleep I notice my body starts to feel numb, now I don't think its SP as I don't get any other sensory hallucinations or feelings. It's just, once my body gets that numbness feeling, I feel uncomfortable and I think focus too much on my body. I'm in this constant struggle of telling myself to forget the feeling of my body, but that usually just seems to make me feel it more.

I was hoping for some advice as to what to do to remedy this. Am I trying to stay too much awake and that's why I get the feeling in the first place? Should I just try to distract myself at that point and try to incubate a dream? It's been like this consistently for me and I'm just not sure what to do.

You could try and take advantage of it - make it into something else to help you stay conscious. Sivason has a really good thread about auto-suggestion, where you use sounds and feelings to help you incubate a dream. Here it is.

I've read that thread and think it's incredibly useful, but not sure how I could translate this feeling. Unless I tell myself that like I'm in my dream and I'm being constricted by a certain object? Or something of the sorts?

I just feel that at this point I'm not asleep enough to formulate a dream as I feel fairly awake and don't feel my mind drifting or such...

You could also try thinking about it in a dream sense - 'I am transitioning into the dream world', or somehting similar.

Stare at the blackness of your eyelids.

      Never fails.

      Just kidding, it fails.

I experience the same thing whenever I try to WILD, so I gave up on WILDing, I don't find it very efficient for me.

Though, I really do like staring at the black abyss of your eyelids.

That's not bad, I'll try focusing more on a mantra relating to the numbness and such, thanks.

Eh it's not a clear cut line, as I had one or two lucid dreams as a kid, but then got interested about 2 years back, and then got discouraged and took a break. I'd say about a year ago is when I had my first lucid dream after intending to do so, but I had about a 7 month break after that and now I just started seriously getting into it. I've had about 10 LD's in about 2 months so I'm hoping to keep on improving from here!
