      Trouble attaining a lucid dream

I have been making a lot of progress with learning to WILD! I've had the most success adjusting my sleep cycle so I wake up naturally an hour or two before my normal wake up time, and then remaining completely still and fall partially asleep again, focusing on staying conscious and in the right state of mind. After several minutes I'll begin to feel movement, like I'm rolling across my bed, and vibrations that will get progressively stronger. I'll also hear loud and realistic noises such as my alarm clock, which has ruined my attempt before, or a large gathering of people talking. Sometimes it sounds like I left my window open and there is a storm outside. But that's a far as I can get. When I begin to hear noises I feel incredibly close to entering a lucid dream, but at this point all of the sensations slowly fade away and I find myself still awake and in my room. Has anyone else experienced this problem? How can I get over it??

I had this kind of experience at the beginning and I believe it is because I am too conscious or aware.

You did not mention your induction method. Did you try some? I think they may help.

Oh, I guess I've been dong WBTB, what other ones are helpful?? I think you're right about me being too aware, because the rare times I've had lucid dreams I will have a very faint memory of the sensations I described above...

There are actually many variants of WILD and they have different attitudes towards the hallucinations.

Some uses anchor, e.g. counting number or observing breath, and do not actively react to hallucinations.

And Some may try to interact with the hallucinations, e.g. visualizing or manipulating.

So how to deal with hallucinations really depends on what induction method you use, and there is no model answer.

Read through the excellent tutorials on this site: my recommendation is don't focus on WILD alone. Build a strong foundation of day work and night work (looks like you have a good start on the night work!) and dream recall, and you'll be WILDing and DILDing in no time . (DILDs for beginners usually are more attainable, and once you learn how a lucid dream "feels" to you that will help you in your WILD attempts).

Are you sure this was not a false awakening?

Musicale, sounds like you were going to sleep and you noticed the sensations and it woke you. I would recommend not reading any material until you get a few LDs. Read exploring the world of lucid dreams, read a couple "fundamentals" threads and work on recall and fundamentals for a while. Any technique that says "lie there for 10 minutes or more" is probably going to waste your time.

I have. I experienced sounds like an old truck starting its engine. I've also seen flashes of light and my fan sounded different than it normally does. Once I experienced sleep paralysis and felt something like a spider crawling on my skin.

The closest I got to was when I felt as if I was floating. So as far as having a Lucid, almost but never completely successful.
