      Unexpected WILD

On waking from a dream I remained completely still and attempted a DEILD, but failed so I recall the previous dream and write in my DJ. After doing this, I lay down to go back to sleep and almost instantly I feel strong vibrations rippling through my body. When this finishes, I get out of bed, do a RC and voila, I'm Lucid!

I have these unexpected WILD's often after failed DEILD's - its strange because when I consciously 'try' to WILD after a WBTB or nap, it is less effective. It makes me realize- it's all down to simply maintaining awareness and not 'trying' to WILD as this creates expectations etc. I don't know, maybe this only works for me, but getting caught up in 'how to get into SP, do not move, wait for HH' etc just gets in the way of simple falling asleep! Because at the end of the day, WILD is just falling asleep without losing awareness - that's it!

Anyway, I find these unexpected WILD's interesting, maybe it's an unconscious expectation that causes them to happen?!

      Well done LucidYogi!

Because at the end of the day, WILD is just falling asleep without losing awareness - that's it!
This is exactly the way you WILD, and it seems very easy. But most rookie WILDers (myself included) always have trouble integrating it in their minds when they're attempting WILD. I have always tried to WILD during a nap, and I don't normally take a nap, so this is probably the reason I constantly failed those tries. I'm going to have to hypnotize myself into believing I'm just falling asleep .

Anyway, I find these unexpected WILD's interesting, maybe it's an unconscious expectation that causes them to happen?!
Well I don't really think it's an unconscious explanation, or anything more than what you already mentioned for that matter. You believed you were just going to fall asleep while managing to retain some awareness, and that's how it worked.

Either way, hope you can have these nice experiences every night! And of course, sweet dreams..

Thanks for the reply! I agree with you, the falling asleep part is easier said than done! I think with WILD it's just finding the right balance between lack of awareness (falling unconscious) and too much awareness (not falling asleep).

I read somewhere that WILDing is a lot like surfing. You have to catch the 'waves of sleep' and ride them into the lucid dream. It sounds strange, but often when WILDing, I feel these waves of sleep - it's catching them that's the problem. I love that metaphor - the mental waves are the onset of sleep and awareness is my surfboard!
