Do you get whispers? How do you deal with them?

I hear whispers of indistinguishable words when I tried to WILD the last couple times. I don't try to WILD anymore because of that, even though it seems like an extremely useful tool for lucid dreaming.

I'm just curious if anyone gets this type of auditory hallucination, and how do you deal with them?

Of course I know they're not real and they're harmless, but that knowledge really doesn't make things any less nerve-wracking when I hear things being whispered in my ears. And it makes me very averse to trying WILD again because I'm feeling too anxious about the whisperings that I know I will encounter again.

I heard those whispers for a while during WILD's, but I never felt anxious about them; I looked forward to them.

Those whispers, which you already acknowledge are harmless hallucinations (and I believe you are correct), could be viewed not as disturbance but as a very clear roadmark on your path to a successful WILD. In other words, if you hear the whispers, your LD might be just around the corner.

So I suggest that you let the whispers come, and then let them pass. Don't try to hear what is being said (I honestly do not think anything is being said anyway), just let them happen, and stay focused on your dream. If you pay no attention to them, then you very likely will not get anxious about them... and you also might find yourself one step closer to a successful WILD!

Yeah, I experience adventitious sounds which I know do not originate in my household, which is situated in an extraordinarily quiet neighborhood. So quiet you can hear a cat walk on a carpet at night. (Not a joke). Almost ANY sound other than my own breathing, my own heartbeat, or my wife snoring (occasionally) is all one would ever hear...unless attempting a WILD after a WBTB. Holy mother...then all kinds of thumping, whispers and strange sounds are perceived. Like Sageous said...just adopt the mindset of "everything is as it should be" and continue on with your counting and/or mantra. A dream (hopefully with conscious awareness) is not too far away.
