    1. 01/30/12: Fragmented Memories

Note: Last night was a bit odd… I remember a lot of fragments of dreams that I'm not sure if they are connected or not, but here they are…

      When It Rains
I am in a strange place, it is out in the middle of the wilderness. I don't recognize the place, though I might not since it is hard to see the surroundings through the pouring rain. It is also rather cold out, and I feel the wet rain penetrating through my clothes to my skin, I am feeling quite cold. I look around and I see a small tent not far from me and I realize I am supposed to sleep in there, so I go to the tent to try to dry off in it. I get in the tent and I realize it is no better than being outside. The tent is small and cramped, it doesn't seem to do anything to keep the cold out, and the worst part is the thing leaks so it is raining almost as badly inside as outside. I decide I won't be able to sleep here, so I head out of the tent. I will find an inn where I can rent a bed for a few gold. Hopefully I have enough… if not, I might have to pick someone's pocket to get the money for a dry bed for the night.

      To The Movies
I am with my friend Alicia, and we are heading out of Tucson, going south. There is a movie theater down there and we are going to check and see if they will have a specific movie playing or not. We are traveling in a helicopter, the pilot lands in a flat area near a road. I see my car is there, so Alicia and I switch to the car and continue going. The theater is sure out in the middle of nowhere. When we finally get there we go to the box office and ask about the movie we're looking to see. The man in the box office doesn't even wait to hear the title, he says he knows nothing about any movies past this coming Friday… which I know to be tomorrow. He refuses to be of any help at all. Alicia is annoyed that we came all the way out here for nothing. I am also annoyed, but I add that at least we got a free helicopter ride out of it. Alicia agrees reluctantly and adds that it was her first trip in a helicopter.

      Nomad and MoSh
I am in a strange place with Nomad and MoSh, and there are a couple other people there with us as well. I don't recognize them. We are in what looks like a small space capsule with seats on both sides of the elongated capsule. The room is about the shape of an elongated sphere, there is no way of telling which is the front or back or if it is even meant to move. I am sitting between Nomad and MoSh. The walls of the room are all padded with the same material that might be found in a padded room of a mental ward. There is a bright white light, but I can't see where it is coming from. Nomad seems excited about something, MoSh seems disinterested. I don't remember what we are doing or where we might be going, but I do get the sensation of motion as the capsule shoots straight up into the air. Nomad voices a loud and excited, "Here we go!" while MoSh just rolls his eyes and groans. I do nothing, still not sure what is going on, but I don't want to appear stupid and admit that.

      Blue Spirals of Madness
I am in the living room of our house, I am working on my laptop doing some 3D modeling. The computer is working fine, so that doesn't trigger me to do a reality check. I decide I want to listen to an audio book while I work, so I switch to iTunes to select one. I select a Dean Koontz book to play and start the first track. I go back to my modeling, expecting the book to start, but nothing happens. I switch back to iTunes and I see that the video effects that I am used to seeing on Windows Media Player are playing but there is no sound. I don't really give any thought to the fact that iTunes doesn't have the video effects screen… The screen is showing blue circles expanding and contracting on the screen, it also seems to be stuck. It isn't changing. Damn, I hope I don't have a virus… I change the screen to go to the internet and the monitor goes dark. Shit! It is a virus! I immediately pull the plug on my external hard drives, fearing the data I may have already lost. The blue circles return to the screen, now they are in 3D somehow. They seem to be coming out of the monitor at me. Then I realize they actually are coming out of the monitor… The spirals surround me as I sit in front of my laptop, they are making me a bit dizzy. It feels like I am falling into the computer… falling into the monitor… but instead I fall into bed and wake up.

      Stealing Spree
I am in a place I don't recognize, it is an office building of some kind. I remember I am there for an interview. I go to the receptionist and say I am there for my interview. She says she will let the boss know, so I sit down to wait. I ask the receptionist where the restroom is, and she directs me to a door. I go through the door and see it is not a restroom… it's a storage closet. I tell her that and she says it's ok, everyone does their business in there… um… yuck… I go into the room and sure enough it smells like a sewer. I look at the stuff being stored in there. There are many different things tossed into baskets with no organization at all. I look at some of them. There are many computer items there. Small cameras, jump drives, some things I can't identify but they look cool… so I start taking stuff. There is no organization, no way of telling how many of what is in there. I grab a couple jump drives, a couple miniature cameras, and a couple things I can't identify before the receptionist opens the door without knocking and says the boss is ready. I go to the boss' office and see a man sitting across the desk. He looks at me strangely and then announces I stink. Did I use the bathroom before coming here? Yuck! Go home, I won't be working here when I pee in a closet. I leave his office, a bit annoyed, but also excited to see what those computer components I stole are…
    2. 01/15/12: Underground Backups

      Backing Up
I am at work, somehow I ended up back working at a data center at a hospital again. Not the job I was looking for. I am feeling quite depressed that it seems my years of school have all come to naught. What a waste. I sit at the computer, staring at the reports detailing that all systems are functioning normally. I am at least glad for that. I can sit there and be depressed in peace. I am sitting there when a coworker comes in early for his shift. He asks how the backups went last night… oh, shit! The backups! I forgot totally about running the backups! How could I have managed to do that? I jump from the seat and rush out to put in the backup tapes, maybe there's still time to get them done…

      Caves of Darkness
I am in a dark place, I am in a cave of some kind. It is pretty dark, but somehow I can still see well enough to find my way. I follow the cave for a while, not sure where I have to go to get out of the caves. Where is the exit? Is there even an exit? Well there has to be an exit, I got in there somehow… so I turn around and head in the direction it seems I just came from. That's the best chance of finding an exit. I come to a large underground chamber, and in the chamber there are strange creatures. I finally identify them as trolls. The trolls are lumbering around aimlessly, they don't seem to know what they are doing and are thus doing nothing. A troll sees me and lumbers right up in front of me. It does not attack me, instead it stands there and looks at me as if it has never seen a human before. Maybe it hasn't… The troll bends over and picks up a shiny rock and hands it to me. It smiles, or looks like the troll equivalent of a smile, and then walks back out into the large chamber and wanders around with the others.

    3. 02/19/11 Back to Work, Missing Link

by , 02-19-2011 at 11:08 PM (New Dream Adventures of Raven Knight)
      The Halls of Data
I am heading to work at a hospital where I am a computer operator. I am parking in a huge parking garage that is arranged more like a massive maze than a regular parking garage. My mother is in the car with me, I am taking her to show her my office. We park at what is near the far side of the parking garage and then navigate the endless passages to get to the entrance of the hospital. I know exactly how to get to the data center, though the halls in the hospital are just as confusing as the parking garage. Two different times I lose my mom and I have to go back to find her. The data center is full of various computers, some of them are state of the art, others are ancient dinosaurs.

It turns out the dinosaur computers are nearly as useful as the new ones. Several employees are heading out for a smoking break, and I go along with them. We are outside on a patio and everyone lights up cigarettes and starts to smoke. A woman coworker notices I don't have a cigarette, so she lights one and hands it to me. I take the cigarette and take a drag from it. The smoke tastes gross, though I get a nice calm feeling along with it. The feeling has nothing compared to the horrible foul taste, and then there's the smell. The foul odor. I definitely don’t want any more of that. We are all playing a game of cards to win small colorful dragon figures that are encased in yummy candy. I win a large number of them and I sit back against the wall eating the candy.

      The Missing Link
I am on an island in the middle of the ocean. I am looking all over the island for Link, from the Legend of Zelda. There are enemies attacking me, they look like some kind of piggish orc or something like that… I have a sword and shield, I am able to fend off their attacks. I am cutting down the attackers as they come. Finally there is a break in the attacks, and I am able to search the island for Link. No sign of him. I go to a dock and get on a small ship and I head to the next island. I know Link should be somewhere in this area, somewhere in this little group of islands. So I search the islands one by one, fighting my way through each of the islands… but I still have not found any sign of Link. I am getting quite worried now, thinking I might not be able to find him at all. This quest might end with epic failure. I am standing on a high cliff overlooking the ocean below when a strange old man walks up to me. He is a short and fat old man, wearing a really ratty hat and an otherwise nice suit. He says he knows what I am looking for, or rather who. He says Link is in the underwater kingdom of the merfolk. He says their kingdom is directly down below, in the deep ocean. I look down off the cliff and into the water. I think I can just jump down into the water and I can swim down and find Link. I ask the man if the water below is deep enough to jump into, but before he even answers I say to hell with it and jump out as far as I can. I plunge into the deep water and swim down from there, heading down into the depths. Merpeople of some kind are interfering, attacking me with spears, I fight back with my sword, though it is a bit harder to do underwater.

I can breathe underwater just fine. I swim into some caverns below, into one big underwater chamber. There is a bubble of air in the center of the chamber and Link is in that bubble. I fight my way through some more merpeople until I reach the bubble.

I take out a ring of waterbreathing like the one in DDO, and I give it to Link. A bubble of air forms around his head, somewhere I find an extra sword to give Link, and we are able to fight our way out of the cavern together and make it to the surface. We are get out of the water and onto one of the islands, the merpeople can do nothing but float in the water and throw curses at us.
    4. 02/15/11 Healing Springs, A Wasted Education

by , 02-16-2011 at 10:10 PM (New Dream Adventures of Raven Knight)
Plans: Nomad wasn't acting like himself in chat today, and I know I have been depressed lately… MoSh said he could also use some healing, so the main plan for the night was to do a group healing with the three of us. Other plans took a bit of a back seat for the night.

      A Healing Mist
I am in the biodome with Basara. Most of the depression I often feel in waking life is no longer with me, Basara currently has his arms around me to comfort me.

I am there in Basara's arms for a short time before a portal he says that if we're going to do a healing we need to be sure everyone is here. I open a portal to MoSh's inner world and go through it. On the other side of the portal I find MoSh wandering around outside the house and calling out to Asuka. I don't see Asuka in the area, so I start searching for Asuka with MoSh, I call out for her as well. I focus on opening a portal to find Asuka, then I lead MoSh through the resultant portal. It turns out Asuka is in the biodome near the healing hot springs. I leave MoSh there with Asuka and focus on a portal to find Nomad. He is in the mountains of the biodome speeding down the slopes on a pair of skis? I don't think I have ever seen him skiing. So I meet up with MoSh, Asuka, and Basara back at the healing springs. We all do healing spells together, and the area fills with golden energy. A soothing mist rises off of the water and surrounds all of us as the healing spells take their effect.

      All For Nothing
I am working at the data center in a hospital just like I have had to do in the past, I am working on one of many computer terminals hooked up to the servers there. Even though there are many other people there and many free computers available, it seems I am the only one doing any work there. I find this to be really annoying. The only bright side is I have a really cool computer terminal to work at, a fancy one that has a lot of power behind it and three screens showing a lot of data.

Right now I need to be pulling up some information and printing it out for the nightly reports. I click a few different things and pull up what I think is the report I need, then I click for it to print. The printer springs to life, but the data it prints out is the wrong report. It is not what I told the printer to print, not even vaguely related. I try again, and it prints a bunch more crap that has nothing to do with what I want. This is getting frustrating, and I have the idea the other people in the room know how to fix things, but instead of helping, they are sitting around making fun of the fact I can't properly print out the nightly report. I am very frustrated with being here, does this mean that the time I spent getting my Bachelor's Degree was completely wasted?
    5. 10/06/10 Non-lucid Intervals

by , 10-08-2010 at 10:17 AM (New Dream Adventures of Raven Knight)
Note: The rest of the night was filled with fragmented non-lucid dreams which I will post here, partially to get me back in the habit of posting in my journal regularly. After missing so long it would be easy to get lazy…

I was with Tigress at a couple of desktop computers, I was working on one of the computers and Tigress was working on the other. I was designing a video game, it was a 3D space game that looked like it had similarities to both Star Wars and Star Trek. The graphics looked awesome. The part I was testing involved the ship coming around a planet into range of a target, the targeting system on the screen looked really cool and high tech, and I was doing this over and over again as I tried to time a certain feature just right. Tigress was saying that feature wasn't really that important when I finally got it right…

I was inside an arcade in a casino, the casino was so huge that there was a small city actually inside it. I was playing the game I had been developing in the previous dream, but I was running out of quarters, so I needed more. I kept a few quarters out and figured that with my programming knowledge it would be no problem for me to hack into one of the electronic slot machines and make it give me a big payout without anyone noticing…

My mom and I were putting a new screen on my window. The old screen had been damaged quite a while ago, this is also true IWL. So I went and got the screen and brought it back. After fighting with it for a while, my mom and I finally got it placed back in the frame… only to see it was the wrong one. We had just put the busted screen back in the window, which did absolutely no good. My mom was annoyed that I had brought the wrong screen, I kept asking her why she had even bothered to keep the old screen…

I have apparently been playing too much Farmville, as now I was sorting a bunch of miniature animals in my own house. I was putting a bunch of cows and calves in my mom's room, a bunch of goats in the living room, foals and horses in the kitchen, and all the felines in my own room. There were just a couple of problems. My mom was complaining about the manure all over the place, the wild cat cubs in my bedroom were chasing the kitty cats, and I was trying to figure out where to put the fish… even though there are no fish in Farmville…

I was in my car driving down a street near my house, it is a long two lane street through a desert area with a few gentle hills and no houses around. It was mostly the same in the dream as IWL, but there were more trees in the dream version. I was driving very fast, and I had classical music blasting out of the speakers, I don't know what composer since I am not too knowledgeable about classical composers. But I liked it. MoSh was sitting in the passenger seat, he was clutching the sides of his seat and seemed to think I was insane for driving so fast. I had the idea I was taking MoSh back to my house, and that it was urgent for me to get him there quickly…

I was in my living room with Tigress, I was on the couch with my laptop and Tigress was behind the couch looking over my shoulder as I worked on the computer. She was telling me about an idea she had for the game I was currently working on, it was a platformer, and it looked pretty cool. It was a futuristic looking setting in the game and Tigress was describing how she thought the next level should go…

I was in my bedroom, but it was quite a bit bigger than it is IWL. There were quite a few musical instruments in there as well, all hooked up to some pretty cool looking speakers. MoSh was there with me, he was playing a guitar. I wanted to learn to play the guitar, I really wanted to try playing it for a bit and see if I could get any decent sound out of it. I told MoSh I wanted to try it, he said sure, but he wanted to try something on it first. He played it for a bit longer, playing something I didn't recognize but I definitely liked. I wasn't sure if I wanted to play after that, but it didn't matter, since that's where the memories end.
