      Addicted to lucid dreaming?

So i started lucid dreaming about 6 years ago when i was around 16 years old.
I always had terrible night terrors and i heard of lucid dreaming as a way to stop it, which it did. Funny thing is I have stopped doing lucid dreaming? I LOVED the feeling of being happy when waking up, but just didn't bother anymore? Don't know why, don't care, i no longer have night terrors and when I do, i can easily see it and know that i am dreaming.

Well my best female friend has been getting really bad dreams and night terrors. I told her of lucid dreaming.
She is a very stuburn person. She says at first that it would be too hard, that its not worth it, then she brought up the point she would want to "dream all the time and never be awake" I couldn't point out the reason this never happens to me, heck i dont even lucid dream anymore! I told her, you only get the good feeling AFTER you wakeup. You also WILL wake up sooner or later, you body can't sleep more than 24hours straight, i think the world record is like 36 hours without drugs or brain damage...
But she insists she would be addicted to it.

Has anyone ever wasted their life away trying to have lucid dreams and sleep all day?
Is there any real reason NOT to have lucid dreams?

Well, I'll admit that I went through a bad stage last year. I had high levels of anxiety and depression and I saw Lucid Dreaming as a way to escape from everything that was going on at school and in my life. I would even fake sick just to stay home and sleep all day to Lucid Dream. But something just changed lately and I'm no longer depressed... I don't rely on Lucid Dreaming like I used to, instead I just see it as some fun. I wouldn't say there's any real reason not to Lucid Dream, though. It's a lot of fun and can help with night terrors and nightmares.

Why waste your time with real life when you can lucid dream instead?

Well if you waste your life on lucid dreaming, you're not really gonna have many friends... I think of it as a fun night hobby! I try to do a WBTB every night. I never try to WILD because I either fall asleep normally or can't sleep at all, so I never spend my day trying to LD.

Personally, I've found that having an active and experience filled waking life helps with having more vivid lucid dreams. And lucid dreaming can help enrich your waking life too.

Actually, there was a guy in the news a few months ago who went a bit nuts and shot a few people, and the media really focused on the fact that he was a lucid dreamer. They were trying to say that he'd lost his grip on reality, but I think he just didn't care that he'd be in prison for the rest of his life because he knew he could escape with lucid dreaming. Personally, I think that as long as you keep your hobby in check and don't let it interfere with your life, you'll be fine. If you notice that you're canceling plans with friends or not going to work or school in order to stay home and lucid dream, maybe that's the time to take a break.

I read this post because I believed this would be what would happen to me as soon as I figure out how to lucid dream I am pretty easily addicted (not drugs, but other things). Anyways, I never had the experience of lucid dreaming and I am still gonna try it. From what I have heard it is healthy and can help in real life situations. Also I don't think every addiction has to be bad...

Reality is what you feel. What do you feel when you dream? Reality?

Well, the only thing I'm addicted to is living, and I can do that in both worlds I love dreaming, even if it's just a random, normal dream, but I also love my waking life, so I'll do both equally I guess

But nowadays I'm seeing too many depressed people, using words such as "mundane" or "boring" to describe their everyday life. These are the people I worry about, because they're going to want an escape from "everyday life".

That was sarcasm right? maybe not but to answer your question
Yes. That's why it's so hard to become lucid, your mind thinks its real. Ever wondered why kids have trouble mixing up dreams with real life? Maybe cus it IS real and the only reason we think its not because we are told its not.

I'm glad that you said this and not "i would rather lucid dream than have any friends." Because of course friends are important... And real life is important.

i've never heard of someone being addicted to lucid dreaming. Maybe they practice it a lot in the beginning and cant get it off of there mind. But over time they get in a good routine and they wont be so obsessed.

I was always a dreamer, in childhood especially. People thought I was a little strange.-Charley pride
