Help with experiencing dreams 'in the moment'?

How do I experience dreams 'as they happen'?

Right now, I go to sleep and immediately blink back awake with nothing in between. Then a few seconds later the dream memories come in. I never actually experience the dreams as they're happening, only as memories. This wasn't an issue a few years ago when I first got into LD (before quitting). Will this improve with dream recall or is there something else I need to do?

To have "present" dreams where you feel yourself "there" in them moment as it's happening, you need to learn to live all life's experiences via paying attention to the present moment, both waking and dreaming. Trying to be one way while awake (non-aware, non-mindful, autopilot, "zomebie" mode) and a different way while dreaming (aware, paying attention, tuned in) will delay reaching this goal. I talk about this a bit more in my "Unified Theory" of lucid dreaming (link in my sig).
