I told my friend Fredrik about lucid dreaming and when I explained the WILD technique he said "That's exactly what I do when I can't go to sleep".
I said "no really?..How?!"
This was his explaination:
-Ok Fredrik when do you normally go to bed?
- 22.00 mostly.
Ok so you do this right when you go to sleep?
- Yeah, but I only do it when I am unable to fall asleep, I didn't know about lucid dreaming, but I use this technique when I am unable to fall asleep. So I guess you need to be to alert to fall asleep if this is going to work.
- Do you use a special posture or something like that?
- No not really, but I usually lay on my stomach and have one arm under my pillow.
- Ok then what?
- Then I close my eyes and think about random stuff.
- Like daydreaming you mean?
- Yeah you could say that, but every now and then I look, behind close eyelids, up.
- Up?
- Yeah I look straight up so it almost tightens a little in the eyes. Then I go through different steps, it's hard to explain, but you will feel it while doing it, like each part of the body shuts down and it start from the feet and work its way up.
- Wtf? And you have never heard about the WILD technique or lucid dreaming?
- No I have never had a lucid dream, I use this technique to fall asleep.
- Wow ok go on...
- As you go through these steps, the last step is when you feel that your breath disapears.
- Ah like breathing really softly like this? (demonstrate short breaths)
- No, you wont feel your breath at all.
- o.O Ok.. But hmm do you move your body at any point?
- No, because I am determined to fall asleep, and if I move I will not be able to fall asleep, and end up having trouble falling asleep.
- But don't you ever get uncomfortable and want to move?
- No, because I really want to fall asleep..
- Ok.. what happens next?
- I get a really strong fear.
- Fear of...?
- I don't know I just get really scared of something, just the feeling of fear. And this is were I sometimes give up, because of the fear and I open my eyes and I can't fall asleep... But sometimes I manage to get past this feeling and, when I do it feels like I levitate above my bed, and then I see a cloud and here I feel that I can chose if I want to stay in this picture, or fall asleep and wake up the next morning, but the goal was to fall asleep, so I black out and wake up the next morning.
- Why don't you stay it is a dream!?
- I don't know i have never thought about that. But next time I can try that.
- YES YOU SHOULD!
So how often do you do this?
- As I said it only works when I am not very tired, so maybe 1-2 times a month. Mostly on weekends.
- Ok then I want you to do this as often as you can, and next time you fail to get to the levitating part I want you to look at the clock and see for how long you have been doing it and then report back to me. And if you succeed stay in the dream!
This is the first time I have met a natural WILDER
Pretty interesting interview and I will try his "technique" I have done all this before, but I have allways done it on regular bed times, so I think that is the key.
To go to bed when you sleep cycle is different, so you will stay aware.
I hope that this motivates some of the WILDers on this forum
