      Deery's Doodle Den

I am resolving to draw every day from now on, to get regularly better at it. Starting tomorrow.

In the meantime, enjoy these figure drawing sketches in pencil and charcoal that I did several months ago. Any comments/constructive criticism are appreciated.

      Nice sketches.

      Why faceless? And why overweight?

      Thanks guys!

Yeah, I went to a community ed figure drawing class. Their emphasis was primarily on bodily anatomy, pose and rendering. Nothing about faces.

Here's my new sketch of the day: a real life portrait of Milo.

The biggest challenge, by far, was getting that bugger to stay still and look at me. He must be more hyper tonight than, dare I say, since we got him. I made it a little easier by drawing my other cat's body, since she was just sitting there with no intention to move anytime soon. She's the lazy, older one. I added Milo's tail and fur patterns, though.

Next time I'll do a better drawing of Ana (the girl cat).

Why no comments? Is the drawing that bad?

Yeah, I was going to draw every day, but as if it was a surprise, I mercilessly failed. I'm an artist, and drawing used to be fun for me, but it's not. Too many expectations and self doubt I guess.

I'm now motivated to master human anatomy by drawing pics of hot semi-naked or fully naked guys. Killing two birds with one stone. Starting with this guy here:

I'm fairly happy with how the body/proportions turned out, but not so happy with the face. Here's the reference pic, if you want to compare and critique:

      Wow, that's petty damn good!!

But you tricked me into looking at male porn!!!!

I can answer this question from Vampire above:
      Nice sketches.

      Why faceless? And why overweight?
She probably did these for a figure drawing class. Faceless because you only have so much time to capture a pose and try to get the major lines and forms down. Overweight because the model probably was.

Deery one thing I noticed in some of the earlier drawings from 2009 - the arms tended to be a bit short, and maybe the abdomen part of the torso a bit long. I didn't notice this in the latest one though - it seems your anatomy has improved considerably.

Heh, I learned much of my anatomy drawing pron too. Gotta keep yourself motivated somehow, right?

I just looked back, and I guess it was only 1 or 2 drawings that had the short arm/long torso thing. So nvrmnd that. And I really like the look of those charcoal drawings at the top!!!

say hey, when do we get some more sketches of underwear models? that is pretty good but the left elbow, the left part, it caves in a little too much. it sort of cuts the arm in half.

Thanks guys! I drew these faces a couple days ago, but I never got around to scanning them, because I thought I'd finish them up more but didn't feel like it. I wasn't in the mood for underwear models at that time.

I drew the eyes way too big I think, which is why she looks like a little girl and not a teenager/young adult.

I like how this one turned out.

      More hot guys to come.

Very impressive! These have a wonderful quality to them - very clean line and striking design. Once I noticed that I looked back over your older ones, and I see they all have a great iconic quality to them.

I was about to say your cat looks extremely similar to mine in the post pictures of your everyday life thread.
Then I see here that he's called Milo too........
      Severe RC moment right there.

Also, I don't know how much better you are than the first pictures, but you have the problem of drawing the legs too small and the feet too small.
Almost everyone does it. Just keep an eye on it and it's not hard to correct.
