Here's a drawing I did for free on another forum:

It's a Xenomorph/Dragon hybrid, but more on the Xenomorph composition based on the person who requested it. I didn't work on the tail since it was just a practice drawing.

This is a drawing I did for free on someone in a different forum.

She has a character that's a Succubus that's also a sheep/bat hybrid, which is why you see the bad wings and sheep wool. Yes, she has penis, that was not my idea, just the person's specificities

      Spoiler for CENSORED VERSION [NSFW:

Image link (bigger file: NSFW) : http://i.imgur.com/AajjmAH.jpg

      Programs used:

      Manga Studio 5
      Photoshop CS5
GIMP (Resizing -- for the original, not the censored)

15-20 hours in total to do it lol

I realized something important to getting the skin better, I start mapping out the form of the muscles, and hopefully I'll get more practice with that to make better drawings equal to the graphite ones I did for traditional media.

PM me if you want to see the uncensored version.

This is a work in progress of another free drawing I'm doing for someone. This is something new I'm trying out, I manually draw in those lines to try and get a better idea of a 3D form before I prepare to shade.

It's what I did for the drawing above with the Hermaphrodite succubus, but I didn't go as extreme with it as I did for this one.

      Spoiler for Big image:

Still have to work on making a good fur brush, and I used one of the brushes (Spike option #1) a DeviantArt user made for Manga Studio 5 here:

Work in Progress of another portrait of Opheliablue that she let me work on. The eyes for the first 3 WIP are messed up a bit, but that'll be fixed. Just wanted to get started on something to be productive for once.

And the final part: I couldn't get every single detail on her hair, that would just be complicated with all of the individual strands and all:

did you draw the outline freehand or traced? some how i think you should keep going at this and get more tone. i think your pencil drawings are my favorite.

For outlines for people in general, I either use the grid method or just trace the outline. It's because unlike doing something like a full scale body, my patience is short when trying to free-hand the face alone. Seeing as it's just a bunch of lines, the shading part is really the difficult part. It's just that if I were to free-hand it, I'd probably have to spend another 3-4 hours just to get the outline decently.

But for something like that succubi hybrid and those other-worldly creatures, I free hand everything. I actually work faster when free-handing people's faces, but because I haven't drawn consistently like that for months, I just trace the outlines. Hopefully I'll get back to doing speed drawings again, but that might take some time since I'm secretly collecting all sorts of e-books on how to do certain things and building up certain brushes to make the job a bit easier.

Also, thank you very much for the suggestion for the tone, I just have a question though, this is what I used for a reference photo:

And putting it into black-and-white to try and see any spots that would hide in color:

      --

For me, I felt that because of the brightness of the photo, there wasn't much I could go for without it looking too muddy. But for the tone, do you mean just the skin tone being a little darker? If so, I can easily make some adjustments if that's the case.

The hair and facial proportions look great. It's just that the outlines look a bit choppy, most noticeably the hair at the shoulder, like they've been cut out with scissors. Maybe that was the look you were going for, but it just seems the edges need to be smoothed out or something and then it would be awesome.

Thanks Dianeva! Yeah, this was a rushed drawing, and I'll try to change the ends of the hair a bit more. I usually use the outline for the base to fill in black, then erase the lines, and then form the hair strands with the hair brush I use. Thanks again for the response Dianeva, will update the drawing as soon as I can.

i think that you should be looking at all the angles of the face more closely. for example then, the right side of her nose (our right side,) on the bridge, there is that darker drop right at the edge of what we can and can't see. i see that on yours you've gotten that one swooping shadow just under the eye, however it doesn't look to be caused by the incline on that side that we can't see. i think all i can really say is just work on these important spots. you could lighten her face quite a bit and the contrast of the shadows at those pivotal spots will almost work themselves out.

remember that in nature lines don't exist. when they are drawn you should always be thinking about the spots people wont see just as much as whats visible.
even before the tone can look real, i believe that proper linework should be used.. if you choose to use lines. i get that tracing is quick, but if you want to improve your skill go freehand more often. i'm no expert, i'm just trying to explain things i think will help as well as think out loud. to be honest i feel like trying my hand at more life drawing/ portraits right now, just by talking about it..
actually how did you find someone to draw, i would like to draw someone too lol, taking all faces.. will probably be done in pencil though so after scanning it might not look too clear.

edit: i took a closer look at your thread and i see you probably know all about this. i still think you could get a lot deeper into contrast though.

Looked at the drawing first, I could tell it was Ophelia, and she looks different in every picture I've seen of her, so you definitely did a good job!

I somewhat disagree with "cut out" criticism. It does look a bit too sharp, however it is mostly because of your style, which is pretty unique.
I think you need to work on the sharpness a little bit, but not too much. Basically improve, push the barriers between smoother and sharp, but don't change the style.

I would suggest doing some freehand drawings with a more quick style, to get you loosened up a bit, before you start drawing your pictures. Actually you should do a couple every day.
Just really quick (under a minute) sketches of anything, and don't try to get it perfect.

Yeah, been doing some gesture drawings a few days ago and recorded some of them. But those were just test recordings, so hopefully I'll make videos where I'll do those, and hopefully contour drawings of others as well. I realized that if I wanted to get better at making less static or dull poses in future drawings of people's body, I would need to "loosen" up the composition a bit when making a rough sketch of their body. And it'll help me not spend hours just to make a body before I even shade it as well.

      Thanks for the suggestions tommo!

You really do have some serious skill as an artist. I've been looking to start drawing real people/places myself as I mainly just draw manga portraits atm but it's getting kind of boring with the simplistic nature of manga characters compared with real life.

Hey, thank you very much Araishu.

If you want a video that helped me tremendously on getting started on drawing people (digitally), check out this guy on Youtube called Weiworks:

      https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKg...UOiXrx1klhlmJQ

One video that I watched first from him is this one:

He made me realized something very important to have less muddy portraits of others digitally. Like the self-portrait I did of myself just recently in the last few pages, it was clearly muddy in all places because I used a small brush to get in the details. He talks about how you want as big of a brush to maximize smoothness, and if you wanted to get the small details, it would just be a process of building up and going over colors over and over until you get the desired result.

      And these two:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YSkYeFeRv0

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0gBmjFM9hs

He just shows a quick process, like in most of his videos, of how he starts with the dark portions, and then the white to really make them pop out. Then it's a matter of building things up, observation, and some patience.

      This one (youtube username: idrawgirls):

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8TP3IclXKM

He talks about three ways ( I think) on how you can smooth colors (which has the same principle as doing grayscale drawings).

But other than that, there's a lot more users I can mention for all sorts of things, but how I categorized and organized those drawing tutorials is a mess. Hopefully I can make future videos or something on the actual process of drawing people. Now that I have a cooling fan, I don't have to worry about the computer heating up too much and possibly crashing.
