Professionally Illustrated Dream Journal

Hey guys! I had an idea that I want to develop in the future.

I've seen a few similar threads to this around but the idea of making a professionally
illustrated dream journal kept popping into my head over the years but I never had
the technical skill in drawing and concept design to be able to make it happen.
In a year or two I'll finally be to the level that I might be able to pull something like this off.
So here's the basic idea behind it:
I constantly have dreams where I'm coming in contact with awesome stuff that I wish
I had pictures of in real life, I have fought dragons that look different and cooler than I've
seen anywhere else, I had swords and guns that look unique, I've visited amazing landscapes
that I've never seen anywhere else in movies or pictures. Interesting characters show up all
the time with bizarre outfits and different designs on their clothing that can be spectacular.
And for the most part, have a crystal clear memory of what all of it looks like!
Especially the first few days after the dream, Designing and showcasing an idea is what I'm
going to be specializing in as a concept artist, figured might give this a shot.
I've seen dream journals that have sketches and quick scene set up (mostly line
drawings/ pencil sketches) to show where objects were placed, what a door frame looked like,
what someone's hair-do looked like, and even the layout of space ships.
Years ago this gave me this whole idea.

Drawing what characters looked like in dreams with outfits, weapons/things they might hold

and generally when I don't have time but want to do some sketches/line drawings of
cool stuff in dreams, I'll make some of that work and upload it. along with my entry for the actual dream.
(Clearly this work here isn't any high grade professional work like I want it to be eventually in the dream journal)

But I hope to some day create some pieces that illustrate dreams as professionally executed as the work these guys make

I'm leaving May 20, 2015 for school and won't be online till May 2016, and after getting settled in and
working this is around the time it'll be starting.

I was just wondering what your ideas were about this and if you think it's a good idea or not?
would you keep up with something like this, because I've always wanted to do some kind of a blog but
never had much interest in other topics to write about, and please throw in any ideas to add to this too
I'm all ears!

I think that's a cool idea. I love dreamy, surreal art and it would be interesting to see images that originated in someone else's dreams. It would take reading a dream journal to a whole different level. Also, It would be cool if you could try and make art from other people's dream descriptions, but that would be difficult without very clear descriptions due to subjectivity. Most importantly, if it interests and inspires you then go for it! You seem talented to me

Thanks Lunagoddess, I've thought of drawing other people's dreams before, those character designs I did were of other people's original characters based on manga style drawings they did of them.
I'm not quite thinking of surrealism as much as fleshed out solid designs to show exactly what was there in the dream. I find that people interpret any surrealism I draw totally differently than I intended, so I'd rather draw exactly what I saw or as close to what I saw as possible. I'm open to doing surrealism at times though if the dream is surreal and I feel an urge to need to draw it

This sounds cool. I've done quite a bit of dream related artwork, but unless I threw aside every other obligation in my life, I wouldn't have time to draw out all of my dreams (or even one scene from each one). It's going to be a big commitment to do a project like this. But if you can pull it off... that would be amazing.

Yeah same here, I'm not planning on drawing out all of my dreams, or even very many of them, I'm thinking more doing this as a hobby in my spare time some times. Probably will uplade it every so often. Besides, most of my dreams aren't interesting enough to spend any time on illustrating.
