Sadly, I have not been anywhere outside mine homeland. I would love to see more of the Pale Blue Dot, but unfortunately I probably will never be able to afford to. Oh, would I would not give to be able to teleport... Alas, by the time we develop that technology, I will be long dead.

Anyhow, if anyone here ever happens to visit Thailand, I would love to hear your experiences. For personal reasons, I am gathering data on the Thai culture.

@Topic Author: What is it like in Italy? Can you describe the society, the culture? Did you ever eat at a restaurant there? If so, what was the restaurant like?

Thanks in advance. I might bombard you with some more questions, if they come to mind.

Italy was pretty great. The society is really weird, Italians can be quite rude people sometimes and the ones that I encountered lived their lives in a very faced paced way. I was quite young when I visited (only about 9) so I can't remember a huge amount of details but the example I can bring to mind most vividly is that whilst I was there I was watching some Italians attempting to park their car. There were cars lining each side of the street and this guy was trying to squeeze into a really small space so he bumped into the cars either side of him so they'd move and he could have the space that they were occupying and it was so weird and unusual to me. Italians also have a rather different view on personal space and stuff. I met an Italian man once who was trying to kiss my cheeks over and over again and it was so weird for me, being British, but it wouldn't be weird for someone from France who's used to it and your view of the culture all depends on the culture you were brought up within because that affects what you see as weird or different.

Can you expand on what you mean by culture? The way they live, high culture? Low culture? Art?

I did eat at a restaurant but I was a very fussy child so I think I just had some pizza (I was really fussy. ) but it was easily the best Italian food I've ever eaten. I mean, it was so fresh and light and the waiting staff were so friendly. We went in the summer so we were sat outside on one of the streets and it was just, it was a great experience. A lot of people probably wouldn't appreciate it but as a kid it just seemed so amazing and I appreciate that a lot now.

I'm sorry if my answer's aren't good enough. I'll revise them later. :')

      Hmm, I see.

What do you mean by rude? I just wanted to clarify this, because frankly, what one culture would consider rude, another could consider polite.

Can you expand on what you mean by culture? The way they live, high culture? Low culture? Art?
Mainly the way they live; religion, public etiquette, gender roles, family customs. But now that you mention it, what is the art like? Also, are there any old, popular Italian hymns you might know of?

@Original Poster - One of my friends went to go live there in an exchange with the US Military and it looked and sounded awesome so I want to go visit. Plus, well, I like the name.

@Aristaeus - I mean that Italian people have a very different view on personal space than my culture. They can get quite in your face and demanding some times which, in my culture, is considered rude as in my culture you give people their space and leave them to make their own decisions. Exactly. Your view on culture depends on the culture you belong to.

I'm sorry. I don't know about most of that. I went for a week. Not for a month. Although from my knowledge I think that Italians are pretty religious but then it depends on your family and your upbringing rather than your specific culture I guess. The art is beautiful though. It fufills every stereotype that you hear about Italian art. I think it was absolutely beautiful and definitely worth the trip.

Sorry, there's only so much you can pick up in a week. We'll have to start a search for an Italian.

It's really hot. There's a cool little riverwalk and a bit of a night life... to each their own but it wouldn't be my first choice. Granted I just don't like Texas much. Too many Texans.
