I may have found a better technique for trying to recognise your dreaming

Its something I just tried today & it worked.

You all know that tip for trying to lucid dream is repeating to yourself before you go to sleep that ''I'm going to have a lucid Dream & recognise I'm dreaming''.

I switched it up & repeated over & over in my head was ''I am dreaming''. Simple as that I tricked my mind into saying this during one of my dreams without finding any dream signs. I quickly picked up on the echo in my head & said what do you know this is a dream im in.

But still to obatain full lucidity I ofcourse had to do a reality check. After I was successful with that, I began to used the dream control techniques I've learned.

That's kinda how it mostly works out for me but isn't that just the same as mild, i mean your just changing the mantra which u repeat while going to sleep.

I'm abit unclear as to how you tricked your mind into saying it while dreaming...did you use some mental reinforcement to beef up the intention of what you want from the dream over and over? I did something like that before but it wasn't verbal or sentances it was actual as in imagery intention to fly to my desginated lucid spot opposite my bedroom window and the mind was convinced enough to believe that I can really fly there and I automatically became lucid in the dream and fly to exactly where I wanted.

I wasnt imagining a certain dream I wanted or anything. While I was closing my eyes trying to get some sleep , in my mind I repeated to myself '' I am dreaming'' for 15 or so minutes til i drifted off. That saying was drilled into my mind, so when I was dreaming I could hear myself saying the chant , that I am dreaming. I then recognised that this may very well be a dream & that whole technique helped my awareness. I dont know if the right term was tricked my mind but you see why i would you that to describe everything.

Note : I only tried this once & I posted this here at night to give ppl a tip , if they are looking to try something new tonight

Ok...I get it. I also did something similar with your method but I used a light that is connected to my finger switch and when I pressed it the light would shine at me and I would try to remember what I wanted from the dream. After about I think like you said 15 minutes maybe less I drifted into dream like sleep but it wasn't really dreaming more like thought to imagery transition but more imagery. I woke up because I couldn't sleep through it but the idea of lucid dreaming and 'stuff' hit bulls eye in the next dream I had so yeah it's effective way to be lucid.

I wouldnt say its really like MILD. It jut uses the technique of repeating a statement. The whole point of the thread is really the statement you will be repeating which will sink into your brain as you fall asleep. It may transition into your dream to help you become lucid without a dream sign. I think it really just makes you more aware of the possibility that you may just be dreaming.

I think it could help ppl whos looking to try something new. Atleast its worth a try for those ppl.

It's not a bad idea to try something new from time to time, especially if you're in a dry spell. I'm glad this is working for you and best of luck as you continue to reach for lucidity.

It definitely makes sense to me that using a mantra in the present tense would be more effective.

I think the idea in "Dream Yoga" is that the more you go through waking life looking at the world around you as if you were dreaming, the more that sense carries over into dreams out of habit. I think this applies 24/7, but probably particularly just before sleep...

I was just thinking about that! How Tibetan Buddhists say to remind yourself often "All things have the nature of dreams."

That's really interesting. Now that you mention it, saying something like "I will recognize dream signs" or "I will know I'm dreaming" or something like that is a lot more passive than "I am dreaming." I'll definitely have to try incorporating that into my MILDs and see if I respond better.

I'm definitely trying this tonight, seeing as I've been having difficulty remembering to do reality checks and dreams and recognize dream signs.

This works a little too well, I did this when I first went to sleep and within 5 minutes of saying this and lying still I went into SP O.o

So I have something to try now. Hm.
As children we believe anything is possible. As adults, we need to remember it.
