      Losing the dream once lucid

I have been having trouble holding on to my dreams once I am lucid. I will become lucid, but as soon as I do either (1) things start to break up around me as though I am waking up, (2) everything fades until I find myself in blackness, followed by loss of lucidity (3) I will have a false awakening or "see" the back of my eyelids and "feel" myself in bed.

I didn't use to have this trouble so often, but now it seems the majority of LD's are like this. I have heard people say how vivid and expanded their dreams become as soon as they are lucid, but for me it seems to be just the opposite. Any advice?

There are several methods you can use when you see the dream breaking down and losing stability.

For your first problem, the first thing I would do is to try to stabilize the dream and increase vividness. You can try looking at your hands so that you have something to concentrate on, then you can shout "Increase stability now!". That will most likely help you, as this works with most people. Another option is to start feeling the environment around you. Literally. Get on the ground and feel the grass, smell the air, taste some grass if you're really desperate, hear the birds signing, anything to get your dream senses stimulated. This will help you get anchored to the dream as this detaches you from your physical body so your mind can concentrate more on the dream.

For your second problem, I will teach you something called linear acceleration. If you find yourself in the "void", which is infinite blackness, try rushing forward really fast while visualizing a new (or the previous) landscape. Think that you will break through the blackness into the new (or previous) landscape, and you should land in the area you chose. Either that or someplace you didn't choose. No matter what, you saved your dream.

For your third problem... well, for the FA problem, just remember to do RCs after a LD to double-check you aren't still dreaming. I've done this 4 or 5 times in a row (I had to stop because of a possible nightmare), so it isn't very hard to remember to do. For the staring at the back of your eyelids and feeling yourself in bed, I think you just woke up. Learn to DEILD so you can try to reenter the dream after you wake up. I hope I helped!

(I think I posted this in the wrong section of the forum)

Thanks, Snowboy. I remember now reading about the linear acceleration method, and will try it next time I find myself in the Void.

I'm getting better about doing RCs upon waking up, but it is hard to break bad habits.

      No problem.
