      Visualization...

Yeah uhm.. I want to try this technique but I think my visualization need a lot of work but I don't know where to start... When I "visualize" things all I really do is sort of imagine seeing them. I don't "SEE" them as I would if I was actually looking at it... All I REALLY see is black... is that normal? I want to attempt this...

Think of it like intentional daydreaming. You shouldn't actually see it through your eyes...it would be more like if you were to recall the scent of coffee, and know what it smells like, but not being able to actually pick it up with your nose. You can come close, but you can't really get there. That's perfectly normal.

usually for me, I start of with just thinking of the scenerio and talking to myself, but then my mind takes over and the images start to form. From there I usually just start to feel my dream body and then I fade into the dream
Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around.

From my experience, I've identified in a non-tired state three different ways of perceiving visualisations:

      1. As someone said, you get momentary glimpses or essences of your thoughts. They're almost conceptual because you don't perceive them..hmm directly. This is the weakest form of visualisation, and is the one responsible for bringing this image I'm going to plant in your head now: don't think of a pink elephant.

      2. You literally see your visualisations on the back of your eyelids. They have depth and stability, but you perceive them distantly. They're not of photographic quality, however.

      3. At times of deep concentration, you have photographic-like visions where you suddenly feel closer and more attached to them. This happens to me very briefly - I'm currently trying to maintain control of these sudden glimpses.

My advice is to practice staring at a simple geometric shape. Stare at it for ~ 45 seconds. Close your eyes and try to maintain the image of it before it fades. Repeat. Repeat.
