Here's some things I do to make my lucid dreams brighter.

      If it's dark inside:
      - Expect the lights to turn on by themselves.
      - Command the dream to turn the lights on.
      - Find a light switch and "know" the lights will turn on.
      - Open a door, fully expecting it to be light outside. Visualize as you do this.
      - Commandingly shout something like "brightness now!".
      - Sometimes light switches do work. Again, it's just a matter of expecting them to work.

      If it's dark outside:
      - Find the moon and drag it down; dream may automatically make the sun come up to replace it.
      - Commandingly shout something like "brightness now!".
      - Expect the street lights to turn on.
      - "Realize" that it's dawn and the sun is about to come up. In the dream, believe it'll come up very fast and won't take forever.

I've done the above quite a few times but sometimes, even though the lights turn on and the sun comes up, the actual lighting in the area doesn't change. This is why it's important to visualize how shadows will appear and how the objects around you will actually get lighter.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Not all lucids start out in darkness.
I find about 50% of my lucid dreams occur in dimmer-than-normal lighting, but it doesn't bother me that much, as long as it's not overly dark. I usually just go outside. A few times, I've actually flown when it was nearly pitch-black outside, and that was still fun! I think as you accumulate more LDs you get used to it a bit more.

Plug it in. You accidentally tripped over it last night while going to use the bathroom, remember? (the power of suggestion )

The lights in my room usualy don't work in my lucids so I just walk into the family room and turn those lights on or expect them to already be on. Even though my FA lucids usualy start out night time when I go outside its day time because I expect it to be.

You must always remember that YOU are in control. Don't let the dream control you or else that's when things get tough. Just remember and use the reason, "It's my dream. I control it. Nobody else. Now... Lights on!"

Just raise the sun. Reach your hand in the direction of the sunset/usnrise and pull it up. The force is with you xD

"wait, why am i wearing sunglasses when it is dark?" *takes them off* "yay light!"
They say dreaming is dead, no one does it anymore.
It's not dead it's just that it's been forgotten, removed from our language.
Nobody teaches it so nobody knows it exists.
The dreamer is banished to obscurity.
Well, I'm trying to change all that, and I hope you are too.
      By dreaming, every day.

Hhmm... idk.. Maybe try setting things on fire. lol I don't think I've ever had that problem before so I really don't know. Although, belief is what creates everything in your dreams so basically you just would have to believe that the lights will turn on or night will turn into day. Just remember that you are the master of your dreams.
