      new reality check

okay so a few days ago i had a non-lucid dream where i was explaining to someone else how they can realize theyre dreaming. my dream self knew this was a known method but i guess i made it up or it just came to in the dream. anyway, i opened the hatch to my car and got out this portable radio and handed it to him. i told the person to "think about the song that will play on the radio before you turn it on, then flip the switch. if the song you are thinking about comes on the radio, then you are dreaming."
this morning, i had a dream where i saw that same radio in front of my house. i decided to give that RC i made up in my dream a try, even though everything seemed completely real. i thought about the song "rocketman" by elton john and when i flipped the switch, the song came on. i immediately knew i was dreaming and went on with the lucid. anyway, i thought this would be interesting/helpful to some of you so enjoy!

The problem with this reality check for me, is that this happens to me a lot in my waking life. I'll think of a song I really want to hear, and then I turn on the radio and its on. I'm just really lucky I guess because it happens quit often with me. But I can it working as a good reality check, but then you'd have to have a radio next to you in the dream all the time.
Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around.

haha nice one i like it. i never understood these type of checks though. whenever i think to do the check in a dream, just questioning reality is enough to realise its a dream. whatever works for you though mate good on ya. by the time i would have managed to press the button on the radio my mind would probably have wondered so much id be flying to another time zone

Sometimes radios won't work though, and it might just be luck that the song comes on. It's way more probable that a song of your choice will come on than, of course, being able to breathe through a plugged nose, so I wouldn't exactly say it's safe either. Drawing a conclusion that you're dreaming because a song is playing could end up being a bit risky.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Reality checks aren't so much as to become lucid, but to confirm you are. You don't want to be awake, think you are lucid, then jump off a skyscraper

yeah but does anyone think something like that has actually happened before? like bill hicks says take off from the ground first i can understand people goign through a dream while thinking it is reality, but cant imagine anyone ever mistaking reality for a dream. better safe than sorry though
