      Can't Say Enough About WBTB!

So I haven't been sleeping very well, lately. I've developed the trend of waking up nearly every morning, at about 4am, and fighting to get back to sleep. The upside to this is that I'm forced to try more WBTB's.

Most of my lucid dreams are spontaneous DILD's; founded on either a sense of awareness during danger, or just a passive realization that I'm in the dream state. I often try WILDs, but have very little success with them. WBTB has been - above and beyond - my most successful, intentional method for inducing lucid dreams. This has been confirmed in the past few days. I have been waking up early and going back to bed @ around 4-5am, and have had 3 lucid dreams in the past 3 days. For anyone who is having trouble giving their lucid dreams a kick-start, I simply can't advertise WBTB enough.

WBTB is the only method that I actively try. I have about an 80% success rate with it. Even those few times that fail can be attributed to being my fault. You have to do it right for it to work.

with WBTB, how long are you supposed to stay up and what do you do in that time? I keep seeing, "Between 30 minutes to an hour."
well which one is it? Which have you had the most success with and will it work for my schedule?

      Go to bed/Fall asleep : 10/11
Wake Up: 5 A.M. (except for saturdays where i wake up @ 6 A.M., and sundays where I can sleep as much as I want)

So what do you think? Can I sneak in a WBTB in there somewhere without damaging myself?

It's definitely the most effective method. Even when it doesn't result in a lucid dream, it creates some very vivid and easily recalled non-lucids.

I don't think there is any universal, set time. Sometimes I'll stay up for 20-mins. Sometimes I will stay up for about an hour. An hour is usually pushing it, though, because by that time, it's usually a little harder for me to go back to sleep.

During the time I'm awake, I usually just come to the PC and either browse DV, watch some cool fantasy/action movie scenes just to get the imagination going; read some interesting articles...whatever. Just something to occupy my mind for a little while (though if it has something to do with either dreaming, or a scenario you might want to experience, during your upcoming dream session, it's just that much better).

On the nights that I might get to sleep around 11 (which aren't many), I sometimes wake up spontaneously around 3 or 4, which gives me enough time to go back to bed for my longer REP periods. If I have to have been awake within an hour or so of my alarm going off, I'll usually just stay up instead of trying WBTB. But usually if I have another 2 hours to sleep or so, I'll stay up for maybe 30 mins and then go back to bed.

best to find what works best for you. if i stay up for too long i wont get back to sleep easy, but if i only stay in bed awake for a couple of minutes im likely to fall back to unconscious sleep. just going to the toilet for a couple of minutes worked this morning. although even that was a struggle due to my neighbours power tools . just try starting with a quick toilet break, then gradually increase it until you find it too hard to get to sleep. somewhere in the middle will be your sweet spot

oh yeah and remember to do some reality checks each time you try it because those false awakenings are tricky buggers

Well actually this technique really works for me, I always wake up naturally after 4-5 hours of sleeping then I just think about the lucid dream and how it would feel & I get lucid just as I enter the dream (It doesn't work always but I think it will eventually do)

I'm guessing this is THE technique everyone should be using especially amateurs since it's pretty easy to do and it brings results fast enought

So I couldn't agree more with you guys

you know, something I realized that may work is while lying in bed I was thinking about something i REEEEEAAAALLLLLY wish would happen in real life, and the more and more I kept the scenario going in my head the more and more real it started to get. Not sure if that would even lead to anything but it was helping me sleep.

      To get back on point,
perhaps on the saturday nights where I can sleep in i'll force myself to wake up after about 4-5 hours and just stay up for 15 minutes and go back to bed and start creating my own dream scenario

Using any technique with WBTB is amazing! WBTB also helps recall.

It's like a miracle dream drug.

I was always a dreamer, in childhood especially. People thought I was a little strange.-Charley pride

Yeah that works for me too, I like to think about the same place and the same people so I get used to it and my brain automatically knows that I'm dreaming, so far... good results

Lucid dreaming is easy if you put bit of mental effort through out the day. all you got to do is randomly through out the day and also when something unexpected happens, just stop become aware of your surrounding and focus on everythign around you and see if your dreaming or wake, and why that is. if you do this for even 2-3 days in a row and have Lucid dreaming on your mind with a specific task you want to do last thing before sleep, and i gurantee you will have 2-3 Ld a night.

i know this because i often go through dry spells because i dont bother doing that anymore and think itll just happen, and then when i do try and put in a little effort LDs come 3-4 a night.
