Hmm.
Maybe if you are experiencing sleep problems or sleep deprivation, maybe try a method where you dont have to WBTB..
For example, DILD, or MILD..
I personally recommend KingYoshi's ADA (All Day Awareness) technique.
This will help you to be more aware in your dreams, and maybe triggering lucidity.
Also, try repeating throughout the day, as much as you can "I am dreaming". It should store in your subconscious so that you will remember it more often, and hopefully, while you are dreaming.
But, dont say it without meaning, when you say it, actually believe for a second that you might actually be dreaming. Think back to how you got to where you are right now. How did you get there? Focus on things around you, be aware of your surroundings. Also try doing a reality check every time you say it.. Try one like, sticking your finger through your other hand or something. If it goes through, congrats!
So that if you do say "I am dreaming" In your dream, you will become more aware of your surroundings, or notice that you cant remember how you got to where you are, thus triggering lucidity.
Hope that helps.
