Help with stabilizing a lucid dream. (Spinning technique)

(just realised this might have been the wrong place to post this, sorry!)

Last night I came close to having my first full lucid dream. (I've came close twice before, but I actually was lucid for a bit this time).

I was lying in bed, just awoken from a dream, but didn't move and tried to become lucid. I felt SP kick in. And I kept going in and out of the dream, like when I came very close to being lucid, or perhaps actually gaining lucidity, I would get very excited and I could feel my heart pounding very fast.

I remembered that people say to spin around. So I did, and it helped me gain some stability. And the fact it worked so well and quickly surprised me. But when I was spinning, I thought a few things. Like how long do I have to spin for? How long do most people spin? Also, I think I was trying to rush into the lucid dream, when I realised I was about to become lucid, I just wanted to try stuff straight away. When spinning around, I remember my dream character was standing in the room, and I was trying to explain why I was spinning (to give the dream sense).

Also I changed the setting a few times, I couldn't decide where I wanted to be. I don't think my dream was ever very vivid. (at least to the extent people seem to experience).

I also tried to hold objects, I just visualised them in my hand and tried to focus on them. Bascially I tried to seperate myself from my sleeping body. Which also seemed to work a bit.

I cant remember how it ended, I think I either woke up and lost SP and went back to sleep, or maybe the lucid dream just collapsed and went on to have a normal dream.

So basically I want to know:
-How long do people often spin for?
-What do you think when you spin? Do you try and make sense of the spinning, do you try and continue the dream in your thoughts?

Edit: also I remembered, at times in my lucid dream it was as if the whole dream was moving away from me. Like as if I was zooming out? Hard to describe, but Im guessing that was part of the dream collapsing?
