It's the same as if you see something dreamlike, or a sign that says "you're dreaming!". You can do so, but you'll have to be aware enough to notice it; if not, you will be going about your normal activities without noticing you're dreaming. Since being aware naturally promotes lucid dreams, it defeats the purpose of setting up a cue in your dreams. Also, since the nature of dreams can be pretty random, the dream character may not even tell you.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I once had a dream character (a little girl) ask me if I was dead during a lucid dream. I immediately panicked and woke up. I try to avoid conversations with DC these days.

I think this could be useful, especially if you are like me and see certain characters frequently. If you can train your subconscious to have them remind you to become lucid.

      You should try it.
And let me now how it goes!
I will do it one day, when I'm skilled enough
