      Waking Up Randomly?

      I've been waking up randomly during the night, usually I just sleep through the night but for the past few nights. The only thing I've done differently is write this (see below), in my DJ:

      Usually I'd try to focus and repeat the mantra in my head, but that didn't seem to do much for me. So, I'd just write it and go to sleep, not really focusing on anything. Maybe just the act of writing it down is affecting me somehow?

      When I wake up though I don't remember anything, so I'm not sure if there was anything I was dreaming about.

      What do you think?

      DJ Example:

      (sn=side notes...)

      (date)
      mantra: "I will lucid dream"
      sn:

      Waking up is great! What do you do right after? Do you go back to sleep?

      If you wake up during or right after REM sleep you SHOULD remember something. Even if it's just a fragment, it's important to write it down.

      I actually found when I started WBTB that I just naturally woke up at that time for the next week, if you want this to stop then just attempt to go right back to sleep.
      But it can work to your advantages, such as better recall, possibility to attempt WILD/DEILD/MILD.
      This works because;
      WILD - In your REM period so you will enter directly into a dream
      DEILD - If you don't move then you can do an 'easy' WILD.
      MILD - because you are so close to dreaming, what you auto suggest/visualise is more likely to carry into the dream.

      If you have any questions just ask!

      You wake up after every REM cycle, now you're just aware that you do, normally we just can't remember it!
      I find WBTB necessary for my dream recall, I remember 1-3 dreams more when I wake up during the night, than if I didn't.

      I would recommend WILD, DEILD and especially MILD. Same reasons like Arch wrote.

      Good luck.

      @XeL
      Yeah, I just go back to sleep.

      @Arch
      I have no desire to stop it, I'm okay with it.

      @Arch & Pandabear
      Thank You!

      I've found myself waking up automatically during the night this week. Every time I did I would have at least one lucid dream. The two nights I didn't wake up were the two nights I didn't remember anything at all. When I wake up I always remember at least one fragment but it's usually at least a dream or two. I usually just roll over and go back to sleep too so I don't know why I'm actually having these lucid dreams.

      Waking up is totally normal. It is common to wake briefly after the completion of every full sleep cycle. Even if you don't remember any dreams, try to write down the times of your awakenings. This will help you chart your best times for lucid dreaming.

      Yeah, I think it's normal. I used to wake up just like you all the time, but one day I just randomly stopped waking up. Anyway good job on the success with MILD!

      On a WBTB try this. If you don't remember what you were dreaming about try visualizing the last dream you do remember... even if that occurred days before. You might be able to pick up on remnants of unresolved memory.

      You don't need to go see any doctor. Waking up is, if anything, beneficial.

      Update!

      I have the alarm set to go off at 3:45am. Although, now I'm waking up even earlier, around 2am.
      I recall some dream content sometimes.
      (I really have to get around to practicing waking up and not thinking of the day ahead, etc!)
      I have a question: what do you think it is that could be causing me to wake up nearly an earlier than my set time?

      I've been having this problem of waking up a few times every night too. Now I feel like it has a purpose thanks.
