You just need to know, getting a tattoo on your finger (a less meaty area) is going to hurt a lot. |
I wanted to ask you guys if you think this is a good tattoo idea, I am probably going to get it soon. I was thinking of a white tattoo along the edge of one of my fingers that says "Am I dreaming..." so I can always glance at it and question if reality... |

I probably am not concerned with the pain. I am just curious what other people think, its always good to run tattoo ideas through as many people as possible. I get the whole looking at your hands thing, but i feel if I had a tattoo of it, I will be constantly reminded to make sure I am dreaming or not. thanks for the response tho |
then you would have a rather superficial tattoo in a place where you couldn't hide it, even years after you lost interest in lucid dreaming. but if you have considered that and still wish to proceed, it should work. |
Seems a bit over the top, just for a reality check, imo. |
I'd recommend a cell phone RC background instead of a permanent tattoo. A cellphone at least provides you with a way to verify your reality after questioning it! Looking at one's hands in a dream in general is a very ineffective way of practicing for lucidity. I spent 3 months trying that method and did not get anything! |
You can do less radicals things, for example of some Rc's I do: |
Do you guys mean phone reality check like an app that bings to remind of you checking reality, or simply just checking the time? |
Ohhh i get it, that's a good strategy. thanks guys |
I agree that a tattoo may be a bit.. ..over the top ^^; but maybe a ring with something meaningful on it or wristband with "Are you dreaming?" on it or something might work? It'll prompt you to do a RC. But I don't look at my hands in my dreams a lot, so it would only be useful if you do. Same with the phone; I have only dreamed of my phone ONCE. |

Spoiler for Dream Goals:
What I do as a much less extreme alternative, is whenever I'm about to go to bed, I write in black permanent marker, on the palm of my dominant hand, "You are in a DREAM!" I am very new to lucid dreaming, and I've only been doing this for one week... So I cannot attest to this working or not, but it seems to me that it should. I mean, I leave it on all throughout the day as well. Unless I have a date, or something professional, in which case, I just wash it off. Sooner or later my mind will get use to the idea of that being on my hand, and I'll see it in a dream. |
haha i had the same idea |
I have a tattoo and in my dreams it is always like smeared or something. I have a lot of tattoos and I do not think adding another one is too extreme, esp if it is a white tattoo which looks more like a scar, but I like them. I have a lot on my mind, so simply just telling myself to make a reality check usually doesnt pan out too well. I think I might get it, I will post pics when I do! |
i wear a silver ring on my thumb as a reminder, and to be honest I often forget to reality check when I see it. It would be a shame to have a tattoo somewhere visible, which could potentially cost you job opportunities in the future, and then get so used to it that you forgot to use it. |
Considering your thinking about a white tattoo its not going to be that apparent to anyone else. But white tattoos tend to fade a lot. After a while you might not be able to even read it... >_> although I guess you'll still know what it's suppose to say and it'll still remind you... |
Why not have a tattoo inside of a dream ? |
Couldnt this be easily adapted? instead of getting a permenant tattoo use a pen and scribble it down, write a letter or something that will make you instantly think "Time to reality check" the moment you glance at it. |
works for me.. |
I would do exactly that, if my tat wasn't on my back LOL. And mirrors are scary in dreams. |
