      Cool Reality Check Tattoo Idea...

I wanted to ask you guys if you think this is a good tattoo idea, I am probably going to get it soon. I was thinking of a white tattoo along the edge of one of my fingers that says "Am I dreaming..." so I can always glance at it and question if reality...

You just need to know, getting a tattoo on your finger (a less meaty area) is going to hurt a lot.

I read that someone looked at his hands often in reality to make it a habit, and there was once in a dream his hands looked weird to him that's when he realised it was a dream. So probably just looking at your hands might be good enough. Although I think that's a pretty cool tattoo idea.

I probably am not concerned with the pain. I am just curious what other people think, its always good to run tattoo ideas through as many people as possible. I get the whole looking at your hands thing, but i feel if I had a tattoo of it, I will be constantly reminded to make sure I am dreaming or not. thanks for the response tho

then you would have a rather superficial tattoo in a place where you couldn't hide it, even years after you lost interest in lucid dreaming. but if you have considered that and still wish to proceed, it should work.

Seems a bit over the top, just for a reality check, imo.

I'd recommend a cell phone RC background instead of a permanent tattoo. A cellphone at least provides you with a way to verify your reality after questioning it! Looking at one's hands in a dream in general is a very ineffective way of practicing for lucidity. I spent 3 months trying that method and did not get anything!

You can do less radicals things, for example of some Rc's I do:

      - I have a watch that doesn't work. Whenever I look at it I tend to question myself if I'm dreaming or not
      - I always carry a small (very very small) notebook in which I write down things about lucid dreams. Means whenever I move from one place to another, I have to grab it from the table, which reminds me to make a reality check

Basicly, there are tons of options, no need to make a tattoo. In another note though, I've been thinking about doing a tattoo with my mantra. Just the fact that I know I did could help my sub conscious in any way (imo). Something like "I am lucid". Of course it's important to notice that the placebo effect has a very strong deal here

I can also testify to the effectiveness of a phone RC. I always write my dreams down using my phone, and so far I have not had a single dream where my phone has worked properly.

Do you guys mean phone reality check like an app that bings to remind of you checking reality, or simply just checking the time?

I guess they were meaning for you to try using your phone as a reality check. I reckon the phone wouldn't work properly in a dream so you probably aren't able to do the usual things you do in real life.

I agree that a tattoo may be a bit.. ..over the top ^^; but maybe a ring with something meaningful on it or wristband with "Are you dreaming?" on it or something might work? It'll prompt you to do a RC. But I don't look at my hands in my dreams a lot, so it would only be useful if you do. Same with the phone; I have only dreamed of my phone ONCE.

Of course, you could make it a habit to look at your hands, I suppose.. like I did with my RC: I have a 4-sided die that I carry with me everywhere. Every time I put my hands in my pocket (I walk around like this a lot, bad habit, lol) I feel the die and remember to question my reality.

What I do as a much less extreme alternative, is whenever I'm about to go to bed, I write in black permanent marker, on the palm of my dominant hand, "You are in a DREAM!" I am very new to lucid dreaming, and I've only been doing this for one week... So I cannot attest to this working or not, but it seems to me that it should. I mean, I leave it on all throughout the day as well. Unless I have a date, or something professional, in which case, I just wash it off. Sooner or later my mind will get use to the idea of that being on my hand, and I'll see it in a dream.

I have a tattoo and in my dreams it is always like smeared or something. I have a lot of tattoos and I do not think adding another one is too extreme, esp if it is a white tattoo which looks more like a scar, but I like them. I have a lot on my mind, so simply just telling myself to make a reality check usually doesnt pan out too well. I think I might get it, I will post pics when I do!

i wear a silver ring on my thumb as a reminder, and to be honest I often forget to reality check when I see it. It would be a shame to have a tattoo somewhere visible, which could potentially cost you job opportunities in the future, and then get so used to it that you forgot to use it.

Tattoos are either forever, or an incredible amount of pain and money to get removed. Choose wisely.

Considering your thinking about a white tattoo its not going to be that apparent to anyone else. But white tattoos tend to fade a lot. After a while you might not be able to even read it... >_> although I guess you'll still know what it's suppose to say and it'll still remind you...

Why not have a tattoo inside of a dream ?

Once when i got lucid.. I explored the dream room a little, and i found a blue marker on the table.. I took it and wrote Dream on my hand.. And i lost lucidity..
But that night i had another dream (non lucid), at one point of the dream i looked at my hand by accident and i saw the exact same word Dream on my hand.. and i instantly got lucid..

I believe that if a few times you got lucid, you actually got a tattoo, it would appear in other dreams as well..

      Good-luck

Couldnt this be easily adapted? instead of getting a permenant tattoo use a pen and scribble it down, write a letter or something that will make you instantly think "Time to reality check" the moment you glance at it.

I would do exactly that, if my tat wasn't on my back LOL. And mirrors are scary in dreams.
