      Trying to obtain first LD

So I just started trying to LD. I looked it up yesterday and was reading about it for about 4 hours. I wrote a "A" on my palm to look at and say "i'm awake". I also have been doing some reality checks all day (tying to get my finger through my hand, trying to breath with my nose plugged). I also wrote about 2 dreams I had last night in a dream journal. i'm just wondering if anyone has any advice about which method I should use and any other help
Also, would having a fan on all night do anything? Thanks.

Welcome to DV! I'm glad you have found an interest in LDing and you're definitely on the right path to lucidity. When you're performing your RC's (reality checks) make sure you are actually aware that it is possible you could be dreaming at the moment. Keep up with your DJ and maybe start one here to share your dreams with others if you wish Regarding what method you should use, it is completely up to you, but i would suggest starting with MILDs as WILDs can be much more tricky, but like i said you're free to try anything. I sleep with a fan on all night and it's rather loud, but i'm used to it so i don't even notice it anymore so it should be no problem at all.

Thanks for the post =) I have two more questions. First, whats a dream guide? Another thing is It seems that I can only remember one or two parts of one dream a night. Any tips on how to remember dreams?

Welcome to DV, that's a good way to get started. It looks like you're on the right track. Stay persistent, confident and patient.
A dream guide is sort of a manifestation of your subconsciousness. Of course, dreams are subconscious, so a DG is just a special dream character that is the "key" to your subconscious. You can find them in dreams if you want.
And for increasing recall, just keep using a dream journal. Maybe use mantras before you go to sleep. One of the best ways to remember dreams, is to lay still right whenever you wake up, focus on dreams and be calm. Usually you will remember more during this time.

Thanks for the post! So yesterday I tried to WILD. I tried to do it before I went to bed just in case I could reach lucidity. I went into SP but then started shivering all over and I had to get up and move around to stop it. I then went to bed at about 1 and then woke up at 4: 55 (I set my alarm). After I got up I ate a banana (vitamin B6) and then after 20 minutes tried to go back into SP, which I think I was unable to do, and then I fell asleep. I then woke up at about 8 with no alarm. I tried to WILD again but I couldn't go into SP. Then I got up at 10: 30, I again was unable to SP so I just got up. So I have a couple of questions. 1: What time, If I go to bed at 12:50ish again, what time should I wake up and how long should I stay up till trying to WILD? 2: I should I reach SP, at the moment I just flex my muscles and then let them go limp and don't move them again. and 3: Why did I shiver during SP?
Also, I didn't remember any dreams tonight, not one part.
      Thanks!

hey man, quite new to LD'ing too. ive been trying for just over 2 weeks now. I think i know exactly what you mean when you say "shivering all over", i was having a bad dream and i woke myself up (so i was in the middle of a REM period) and i decided to fall back to sleep conciously for the 1st time and it pretty much worked! as i was conciously entering the dream world i could hear people talking and cars driving past. But i decided to do a dream stabilization technique too early and as i rubbed my hands together in the dream i got like a extremly tingeling sensation run through my whole body and i woke up! is that the same type of feeling as you? if it is, i dont think its a bad thing. i actually think its good i think it was the feeling of me entering a dream consiously but i got kind of supprised and exited that "shivering" feeling has happend to me twice. hope it helped. please reply

I use a simple gravity check RC. If I can jump too high I'm in a dream. I also use a digital recorder as a dream journal substitute as it's easier then writing it down in the middle of the night. I have sounds or a fan going every night as I have tinnitus (ringing ears) . I still lucid dream quite frequently. Anyhoo, good luck to you and welcome to Dreamviews
