A Simple Way I Increase Number of DILDs

Ok, Here is a very simple method that I use. It helps me have lots of DILDs, maybe 3 to 5 a week that are any good and a handful of small 1 minute or less ones. As I am relaxing and getting about half way to sleep, just when I feel any sign of driftiness, I do a trick with my breathing.
You want this process to be rythmic and hypnotising. As I breath in I think to myself (internal dialog, like talking to yourself, not just thinking) "I AM". On my exhalation I think the word "Dreaming" So I fall asleep to a meditative chant, of "I Am Dreaming" timed to the rythm of my natural breaths.
It takes me anywhere from a few, to hundreds of breath cycles, to be so far gone I can not focus on anything. Then I sleep. I have now said "I Am Dreaming" to myself tens of thousands of times over the 23 years I have been lucid dreaming. It is now only natural that that thought pop into my head any time something strange happens.
Hope that is an idea some of you can have some success with.
I have varied the words to keep me from being board or to create different effects. If I find I keep forgeting to stabelize I may switch to "Look At",,,"Your Hands" or something like that for a few days.

When chanting this, is it a good idea to think about what it means, or would you suggest trying to fall asleep while repeating the mantra without thinking about it?

I do this for a subliminal effect. Think about what it means for only the first dozen or so breaths, then let it just be rythmic and hypnotising. The idea is that the thought gets burned into your subconcious, kind of like a retinal image you get if you stare at a lightbulb and then look away.

So you breathe in "I am" then breathe out "dreaming" ?
And hm, I've done some techniques like this, I'll try it though :3
      From my rotting body,
      flowers shall grow
      and I am in them
      and that is eternity.

That is the basic idea, but I sometimes change it up a little. Some times, I use "Thanks for" "this dream" or "This is " "a dream"
Stick to one phrase for a few days though. You are trying to imbed the thought in your subconcious, so it may take a few days to get great results.

Isn't this a MILD? With WBTB it can be very effective.

I can't imagine it would work for me. It does sound like it might work for the same reason that a MILD would, but personally, my thoughts drift while I'm falling asleep, and so I'd always eventually stop repeating the mantra.

I would not consider this a MILD. The idea is not to convince yourself you will have a LD for a placebo effect. I just get a phrase to be burned slightly into my subconcious, like having a tune stuck in your head. I mentioned that the idea is like when you stare at a lightbulb then look away, and an image of the lightbulb is temporarily burned in your feild of vision.
Dianeva, that is actually the idea. The idea is to do it until you are so far gone you can no longer focus. It is not intended to be a WILD technique, were you would try to stay aware and still fall asleep. Just do a mantra that makes sense to you, as far as being a helpful thought to bring about lucidity, as long as is practical, until you naturally space off, then you are done. You are just looking for a subliminal effect. That is why I call it a DILD technique. You are in a normal dream, but like a tune stuck in your head, your brain keeps chiming in (if it works, does for me) "I am dreaming" or which ever mantra you used.

In my understanding, MILD is not convincing yourself for a placebo effect, but turning your attention to lucid dreaming, and focusing it there, using anything from mantras and affirmations, to visualizations, to none of those. MILD encompasses a wide variety of things, and I think this is closer to a MILD than a WILD.

Ok, by that defintition it can be called that. So, using that definition, the effect is a "Simple way I increase number of WILDs, by using this type of MILD"

LoL, naming things can get kinda annoying =P as long as it works though, it doesn't matter what we call it.

This gives me an odd idea, that if we simply tell ourselves that we're "always dreaming" that we will constantly think that we can control things, ie try to do crazy reality checks while awake even when we know we aren't dreaming that it will passover into the dream state much more successfully than ever before.

So you'd simply be always telling yourself that you are dreaming, just don't take it too far.

Thanks for the idea, I used to use something similar though never thought to time it with my breaths, seems an obvious way to do it now lol.

      Cool Thank you so much.

When I started to learn Lucid Dreaming like everyone I jumped to the WILD bandwagon.
When first starting what I did was repeat 'I am dreaming' with with every breath for like 100 or 200 times and I did realize that I was dreaming on that occasion.I tried it again but I didn't get the result so I gave up after few weeks I did it again It worked and I tried it again and again but it wasn't working anymore .I spent so much time figuring out why it wasn't working and I totally gave up thinking it I must have been lucky.

But now after reading this thread I have figured out that the rhythmic breathing along with timing the chanting is the key i.e saying dreaming while exhaling is important. Time the chanting with your breath is the key.

      Than you sivason
wohoooooo feel so great.....DILDS Im coming...
