What Myke said. Basically the more you think about your dreams over time, the more your recall will develop. When I started keeping a dream journal and trying to have lucid dreams, I could only remember tiny fragments without any structure or detail, but now -a few months down the line- and I'm remembering the whole dream in detail, even the nuances in my emotions.

After a while you'll discover themes as well. For me, I often have dreams about looking at my tattoo (though I have no idea why) and dreams with my family. This makes dreams much easier to remember because my brain automatically goes to these kinds of topics and makes thought paths.
