Spoiler for Secret to LDing:
A recording of someone repeating a mantra or something like that would be much more practical. Playing recorded mantras, subliminal audio, or binaural beats while you sleep is common in MILD techniques. So you do sort of have the right idea here. The main flaw is that no one is personally going to stay up all night and tell you you're dreaming. |

Record yourself saying that. Another person's voice would require frontal lobe processing. But, hey, what do I know? Try your method and let us know how it goes |
|
I doubt it, because your mind would most likely tune it out along with other outside sounds. When you dream, your mind is focused on the sounds, sights, and feelings of the dream world. |

Our hearing never does go to sleep completely. This is a survival mechanism developed over millions of years. Hearing is the first sense to activate in the womb and the last sense to leave us when we die. |
|
Although I haven't done this myself, I have heard that it works for many other people. Sometimes outside sounds aren't tuned out easily. I've heard music in my dreams that was playing in real life before. I have also had conversations in dreams that were slightly twisted versions of conversations that were being carried out in real life. So personally I think that using audio recordings could be very beneficial to some people. |

I have heard songs, that I knew were hit songs, in a dream. These songs never existed. Hearing is the least understood sense in dream studies. And yet our hearing wakes us up in the morning without fail when the alarm sounds. Simple math. Hearing never sleeps. |

Another person doing stuff can work, of course. But it's what that person does that is important. A lucid dreaming mask flashes lights when you're in REM, so if you have such a dedicated and loyal friend.... get him/her to shine a torch on/off into your eyes when you enter REM. |

Who looks outside, dreams;
who looks inside, awakes.
- Carl Jung
I actually came across a recording like that. It was one of the Hemi-Sync CDs designed for lucid dreaming. There was a voice saying "you are in a dream" once in a while. I didn't find it successful, but I believe it could work... |
