      writing down mantras?

I'm writing down mantras for a mild-ish technique because I remember things better when I write them down. But I'm not sure when I should do this. Right before bed or in the afternoon, our something?

What do you mean by a Mantra ?
Some are not meant to have any meaning at all, and are there to silence the chattering "Monkey Mind"
Others have meaning, and are intended to focus the mind on one task only. Silencing only part of the "Monkey Mind"
Any chance of an example of what you are trying to acheive with yours.

Before going to sleep and while falling asleep is usually the best time for lucid dreaming mantras, but that don't means that it should be only time, you can pick additional times during the day to do mantras as long as you are comfortable with doing it if it helps you setting the intention.

I tried writing down 30 times ''I will have lots of lucid dreams tonight'' just before bed yesterday, but no LD occured. I had 2 simple dreams instead, but I was somehow able to remember more details.

Studies show that if you write the same thing down enough, it actually loses its meaning. Write out "door" to fill out three pages with it and by the time you're done you will be questioning whether or not "door" is even a word.

My suggestion with mantras and affirmations is to keep them simple. Simple predication works best for me, "a is b" for example. Also, phrase them in the present tense. I know it doesn't make much sense when you're awake because you're aiming to do something in the future. The problem is that the future never comes. Interestingly, it seems like not everyone has these same issues that I do with complexity and tense, but I find that no one has issues with simple present tense predication... which is why I recommend them to everyone.

      Mantras I use:
      I am aware
      I dream
      I am lucid

I will actually string all three of those together with a slight pause between. This works well for me because each part can stand alone and work just fine but they also make sense when strung together (yay for fractal mantras).

Writing them down is actually a good idea, but I would break up the activity throughout the day. Randomly write it on things, especially places you might read them around the house. Not only will you remember better from writing them, but when you see them you will remember writing them and reinforce that memory.
I'm not always lucid, but whether I'm awake or asleep I'm always dreaming.
