      Trouble falling asleep during MILD?

Hello, I've been attempting the MILD technique every night before I go to sleep and after a WBTB, for about 15 to 20 minutes visualising a lucid dream and then repeating my mantra. But I find that this tends to keep me awake. I know my last thought before I go to sleep should be about lucid dreaming but I tend to stay awake as I think about this, and I eventually end up going to sleep normally. Any tips?

try visualizing, then mantras. let the mantra be the last thing you do, because it is easier to fall asleep doing a mantra rather than visualization. If that doesn't work, the meditate, and do the visualization then mantra then sleep without them(when you meditate, your inner dialog will reduce, so you can make the mantra your last thought even if you stopped it before falling asleep, since no other thoughts will(hopefully) interfere.
      Good luck!

It's true, that our mind listens to us best when we are close to falling asleep. So yes, it would be great, if mantra was the last thing you think of before falling asleep.

But if you find that it keeps you awake, then stop repeating it and go to sleep. Falling asleep is more important than falling asleep with mantra.

Also, saying mantra should not be anything intense. You should be doing it kinda like in the background. At first, of course, you pay attention to what you are saying and you visualizing what you saying, how you will become lucid and what will you do after. But when you get closer to falling asleep, it's ok if you don't say your mantra clearly. You will notice perhaps you even jumbling up the words. But that's not a problem. It's the intent that you are setting that's important. Not the words.

Once I was reciting "Next time I'm dreaming, I realize I'm dreaming", when suddenly I realize I said "When Karl is not there, I realize I'm dreaming".

But that's ok, it just means you are falling asleep with you mantra on your mind.

And visualizing should also not take up any of your concentration. Notice next time when you falling asleep, when you start getting images of what you thinking about, or even some random stuff. You will be most likely thinking about your past day and what happened. When you will start getting flashbacks, or images of something totally unexpected. And that is the purpose of visualizing. You just think about anything (your day, fantasy...) and your mind will do the rest. You don't need to see what you visualizing. Just think about it. Your mind will start the dreaming process and give you the images. Again, if you see something else than what you were thinking about, that's ok. It just means that dreaming process has started. You already set your intent by thinking of it.
