      Activity as reality check?

      Hi there!

Lately I've been reading different techniques to attain lucidity, including the one about not breathing/blinking, as long as some awareness, etc... to try to finally get a decent lucid.

As I was reading replies and more replies in the posts, I suddenly told myself "and here I am, reading about this, but didn't perform an RC in a while... hmm... could this be a dream?". I noticed the text in the screen... all still... the office all calm as usual.... And suddenly this idea came to my mind: Normally in dreams (at least mine) there's always something happening.

While I'm at home at my computer for hours, or here at the office, I just "know" I'm NOT dreaming, because I sense all that "static" feeling, meaning nothing happened in a while, and I'm just there doing nothing special, or in my own thoughs, for a long time... and usually this also helps me forgetting about any RC because I'm focused on a task.

The thing is... what if I try to set a routine of some "awareness" check, maybe also the breathing/blinking, everytime I do something different? Meaning, when someone walks by the door... when I get into/out my car, while I'm at the market shopping, entering an elevator, etc.?

What I mean is, I don't think I would sit in the office 2 hours in a dream, so RCs there may be useless?? Because then, when I really have to do them (while having activity) I just forget.

I think it could be a something between a constant RC, and sporadic RC... maybe you are 4 hours without doing one, but if you get up and go to the bathroom, you just question your reality, and if when going out of the bathroom someone comes to you and starts talking about something, you question it again while listening.

Or is this a risk to becoming insane?

Instead of awareness or RCs, just thinking "could I be dreaming?", when scenarios change or when interacting with someone.

      What do you think?

Actually this is also RC. But It should work really great, if you dont forget to do RCs everytime you .. do something, ofcourse.
And very important is to do them with awareness and thoroughly.

It may be a good idea if it can become an habit ! That´s the hardest part for me( perhaps everybody ? ) : remembering to do a RC !
You gave me an idea I will try and see if it's easier to remember to RC for me !

Or is this a risk to becoming insane?
No, unless you really get obssessed with it ! But then you probably just get obssessed ( not really really insane ! ) i guess
Check your memory, did any suprising event happpen ? does the present make sense ? visualize what you will do when lucid, and how. Reality check as reminder of your intention to lucid dream tonight. Sleep as good as you can; when going to sleep, relax and invite whatever comes with curiosity. Grab your dream journal immediately as you awake and write everything you can recall (if only when you wake up for good). Keep calm, positive and persistent, and don't forget to have fun along the way

      Hi,

Well, the thing is that after writting this I had some doubts because as I was thinking about it, looked just like normal RCs or awareness recomendations I read around. But the thing is that I feel it different. I'm not sure how to explain it...

Of course when doing an RC you have to do it really questioning reality... but instead of doing random RCs when I remember it (which is hardly never), I though on using this scenario changes or "activity" moments as some kind of reminders, not just to do an RC (which maybe doesn't happen), but to simply "question reality", in hopes that this eventually goes into my dreams, basically because in dreams there's almost always something going on.

Even if I "know" I'm not dreaming, I honestly tell to my self "hey, I could be, stop your zombie mode right there", knowing that in my dreams I'm also in zombie mode and I also assume I'm awake. So I look around just a bit, my hands, or pinch my nose if I can, or if I'm driving I just think where I come from and what I did today. Maybe this will eventually go into the dream? I'm not sure.

In any case yesterday I managed to do it several times, but I also missed some. Today I did it 3-4 times for now... and it's 8.50am. Once when I woke up, second when entering the shower, third on the kitchen while having breakfast, and last one while I was entering the office some time ago. I missed the ones going on the garage, driving, after parking (waking dead )....

I hope to be able to put some kind of "trigger" without becoming insane

Tonight is time for dinner with some friends so I will put that as some kind of test. If I remember to "question reality" when I met them, while dinner, etc... I'll consider it passed.

I wish everyone on dreamviews saw this post. this is the kind of idea and general way of thinking that will drastically advance the entire lucid dreaming community. I'm definitely going to put this idea into practice starting now

      Hi again,

      Just as an Update:

For the last 3-4 days I've been trying to put this in practice, so I've been thinking about the possibility of being dreaming several times a day.

The thing is, tonight (sunday to monday) something strange happened, and I'm not sure if:
      1) It's some kind of "signal" that results are to come,
      2) I just dreamt it because of doing this for 3 days,
      3) I just created a corrupted-dream-mind

I was having some normal dream, with all its strange things around, and I don't remember why or how but I ended up talking with an ANT about lucid dreaming. It asked me what technique I used, and I replied that I don't know how to name it, because I just question reality from time to time and try to have some awareness to notice small details. And there I was, telling this to an ant

Later, possibly in the same dream but in a complete different situation, I was with a couple of guys going inside a mall, and one of them was my boss. I was talking to the other guy about how real can dreams feel some times. I was holding a package of small pies, and as example I told him something about how in a dream those pies could come from... whatever.. and he would see it completely normal.

Also, on saturday night I had several beers but I was impressed on sunday because I had a couple memories of really vivid dreams. I was showering a black cat, and believe me when I say his hair was all perfect, from dry to wet, and water felt really cold. I also have small glimpses about events similar to the ones I had tonight, talking or thinking about dreaming with someone.

So basically it happens that somehow I started dreaming about "being in reality talking about dreams", which I'm not sure to take as good, or bad.

I will have to see how it goes in the next days/weeks.

      Hi, here I am again,

So, my brain tricked me again tonight. I'm not sure if I created some dream-proof monster-mind...

There I was, on the house I lived with my parents around 17 years ago (they don't even live there now), in the main bathroom. I remember it pretty detailed and vivid.

The field of view was a bit weird, like zoomed out, but it was first person (from my eyes). I though "hmm... feels like the typical weird-strange-feeling, as if I was in a dream". I looked myself in the mirror and put one of the stupid faces I put lately for myself (nothing related to dreams, just doing the clown a bit), and also looked at my hands. All was normal.

I continued with my thoughts: "It's even funny... I would have bet this was a dream, feels like it, but it's real!.. ha!". And I again looked at my image on the mirror and put some weird face again.

      And dream continued normally...

So now I'm afraid that even if I manage to trigger this "checks" from time to time, I can't seem to be able to activate my real consciusness awareness. Meaning that no matter how weird is what happens around me, I will see it real.

Don't worry! What is happening to you is usually a very good sign. Keep doing what you are doing!
I would only add two small things:
1- Whenever you ask yourself if you are dreaming you should also do one or two effective physical RCs, like the nose pinch, the "read, look away, and read again" test, or the finger through palm.
2- Do that also when you read, think, speak, etc about lucid dreaming.
      You are really close!!

Also, try to feel your body. Its weight, any aches, pains or itches you might have. It just feels different in a dream.
