I have very vivid dreams, yet not alot of lucidity :(

      Hi everyone!

Just wanted to say i've had a interesting revelation some time ago and hopefully you guys and gals can help!

So ever since i got into lucid dreaming i was dream journaling and doing ADA alot. What i found is that i have very vivid and detailed dreams in which the only main details I couldn't remember were conversations(probably because in real life I get absorbed into conversations alot IWL).

Now I think that having good awareness in your dreams is essential to becoming lucid, or is it? judging from the fact that I have very memorable and vivid dreams I think I would natually find myself lucid(a DILD basically) and yet dozens of dreams come and go and that spontanious lucidity never came(unless I was doing SSILD or WILD).

So I guess my real question is am I missing something? maybe I need a different technique or mindset? I've been getting into doing puffin's SAT to spice things up and started meditatimg cosistently(vipassana and lately sivason's dream yoga) so hopefully they might help, but I should give them more time...

edit: forgot to mention probably one crutial detail: my sleep schedule is a mess right now yet I still manage to get 6-7 hrs of sleep. Just puttting out there in case it's important

Do you RC often? That should help.

Also, you want to question your awareness during the day, be more present and don't get lost in thoughts. If you find that a lot is going on, ask yourself, "Am I awake?" and prove it. Having vivid and long dreams is awesome, and with more awareness, it can yield to amazing lucid dreams

Yes as Percy said, concentrate more on RC and also that question "Am I dreaming?" is very important.
It's awesome that you meditate and perform the ADA, don't worry if you don't see the results yet but let me assure you, you will soon find it very helpful. It looks like there is something small missing in your training. Something to connect all your techniques together.
Hm, try visualization and connect the meditation and ADA more with the thought of lucid dreaming, make your mind think about LD more often.
I am sure you will soon break that obstacles you have ^_^

Ask your friends that you converse with to toss some questions about dreaming in

So like your having a conversation about existentialism

You "Do we exist or do we just think we exist?"
Them "Perhaps we exist only because we think we exist, oh btw are you sure your not dreaming?"

Then when you dream a similar conversation you can reply "Thanks, I exist but not here, btw you don't exist" (and then fly away)

Lucid dreaming, at least at first, really needs to be a main part of your mind. You need to spend time thinking about it every day and in small portions throughout the day. You really have to change a little about who you are to become a lucid dreamer. You aren't going to just sleep more and write some stuff down in the morning and change your perceptions on reality.

^^ I agree with Sensei. But I will add that it is an excellent sign that you have consistent, vivid dreams. That phenomenon where *you* are there in your dreams and reacting to the experiences is indeed one of the main ingredients to lucidity. Maintain and even build that "closeness" to your dreams, and as your daytime intent and self-awareness/memory work catches up to your dreaming, you'll start getting lucid more and more.

Well I really got back to RCing a lot and I think twice I aknowlaged I might dreaming but I wasn't lucid!!

What I got from you guys is that I need to incubate the idea of being lucid more correct?

Any ideas how?(aside from MILD of course).

To break through the fog and dullness of the dream state requires cultivating sharp, keen, active self-awareness / mindfulness / vigilance in waking life. But be happy, if you've achieved consistent vivid dreams, where *you* feel like you're *there*, that's half the ingredient of lucidity right there. And vivid dreams are enjoyable in their own right, aren't they?

Yes they are enjoyable, still I think that being lucid will only improve them!
